Physical Description:
Nyx is a lanky, quick moving wizard with dark curls and serious eyes. All elbows and knees at 5'10'', though his height can vary based on mood. He considers himself to be good looking enough - it confers a careless, casual confidence upon his everyday mannerisms.

His wardrobe is a happy blend of simple tees/jumpers and jeans, peppered by more fanciful pieces obviously thrifted or bought secondhand. He loves a silly accessory and colourful socks.

Generally, Nyx moves through the world around its edges. He does not enter rooms so much as he slips into them quietly, warily. His manner and posture is indicative of someone who doesn’t particularly wish to be at the centre of attention in a crowd; but when he is, Nyx knows how to handle himself. At least for a little while anyway.

He sports a couple of tattoos - a belladonna plant flowering along his right flank, and the Sunken Scoundrel’s mark below his left collarbone. As a bloodwell for the coven, Nyx is often peppered with vampire bites on his neck, wrist, inner elbow and inner thigh.

Personality Description:
Despair, your name is Nyx.

You would be hard-pressed to describe Nyx as cynical or pessimistic, at least not upon glancing acquaintance. He seems to take everything in stride and with a dry, unserious sense of humour. The world is what it is and he is making the most of the hand he has been dealt.

However, beneath this exterior, closer friends will discern a disillusioned personality. Nyx has never been able to truly depend on family and as a result he simply tries not to get his hopes up - he believes it is better to take things one day at a time, without being much concerned about what the future may hold. He often feels he doesn't deserve to have a stable life anyway.

Nyx relies on the Sunken Scoundrels to lift his mood through regular feedings, having weened himself off Muse and Lumos Powder years ago. Nyx is well aware of his addictive personality; he believes his current position is the most workable solution.

At a party, most will find him to be a veritable oasis - easy to hang out with in content silence or to rely on for small talk. He knows how to lay on a compliment and is equally adept at distancing himself with a bit of eye-rolling or snark. What few genuine friendships he has tend to form around wizarding gossip, the latest Wireless audio drama, or shared struggles.

Nyx tends to close off when under pressure or threatened. He compartmentalises well in the short term but might spend the next week or two spiralling into despondency, refusing to leave his quarters.

He doesn’t really know who he is without his circumstances and flaws. However, Nyx tends to underestimate himself in this respect. He is widely read and has a profound interest in Runes and Enchantment, and has been known to mess around with enchantments in his spare time. Nyx likes to read murder mysteries and has a penchant for origami.

At heart, he means well and has little desire to hurt peoples’ feelings.

History:
Nyx Oscuro was born a bastard child and the product of his English mother’s affair with a married French-Italian wizard. Initial ties with his father’s side would not go any further than Nyx having a claim to the surname and his ability as a metamorphmagus.

CHILDHOOD
Nyx was raised by a single magical anthropologist mother who often took him along on the job - usually for weeks or months at a time in South East Asia. Mother and son otherwise occupied a small flat in east London, without really putting down any roots.

Though Nyx didn’t have much stability besides his mother, he made friends easily enough with other kids. These friendships weren’t lasting ones, save for the odd penpal.

His mother eventually married an American wizard who worked for CAWW, shortly before Nyx turned eleven. In order to have a ‘fresh start’ with her new husband (and imminent family) she decided it would be better to keep Nyx at a distance, attending Hogwarts. He lost his mother, his only constant, to this union.

HOGWARTS
Life at Hogwarts brought much needed consistency to Nyx’s life. He was definitively sorted into Ravenclaw and fit right in with his peers, keen not to cause trouble or draw too much attention to himself.

Part and parcel of shunning attention was to not use his metamorphmagic for show. Some part of Nyx felt resentful of the ability, in that it symbolised the missing father figure in his life.

The first three years of school went a long way in helping Nyx develop new interests, hobbies and routines. He found good friends in the less academically dedicated Ravenclaws of his year - this was undercut by him spending every summer in the US, unable to nurture those friendships outside school walls.

Summer holidays entailed a couple of weeks traipsing around New York before being sent to a wizarding camp where he learned to fine tune his skill as a metamorphmagus. Nyx did not mind these camps even if it meant spending less time with his mother, who was already starting a new family with her husband.

During his fourth year, his biological father reached out by owl. Tomas Oscuro was a Healer from a well-off background and had two legitimate sons of his own who were older than Nyx. Now a widower, he was interested in getting to know this stranger of a son.

The two exchanged letters for the better part of a term before Nyx was invited to spend some of his summer vacation with the other Oscuros. To say his newfound ‘family’ was a bad influence on him would be understatement.

They were a more worldly and wild lot. Nyx’s older half siblings were just out of Beauxbatons when he joined them in the summer before fifth year. The wizards were supremely amused by this bookish, diffident personality who had inherited a family ability they did not. Under their influence, Nyx was introduced to a very different social sphere.

He returned to Hogwarts after a summer of great enlightenment. Which is to say - drinking, drugs and first kisses.

In his last years at school, Nyx would become hooked on mild substances to replicate the thrill of his Italian summers. Cigarettes, pixie stix, gillyweed when he could get it. He scrapped by in his studies, earning NEWTS in Transfiguration and Runes, while barely passing his other subjects (Charms, Arithmancy, Potions, History of Magic).

GAP YEAR OF TROUBLE (2009)
Having little direction or ambition in life, Nyx took a year off to ‘find himself’. His mother and stepfather invited him and one of the Oscuro half-brothers, Andrea, to stay the summer with them in New York.

It was a summer of revelry and self-discovery. Nyx spent his days exploring the city, his nights exploring thrills and bodies.

Mischief reared its head several weeks into this hedonistic phase when Andrea dared him to impersonate his mother as a prank on his stepfather. Nyx had taken the dare too far - going as far as getting the older wizard into bed - when his mother caught him in the act.

The fallout from this incident was tempestuous. Nyx and Andrea parted ways shortly after - the latter returning to Italy while Nyx was left to land on his feet in London.

MADAM MAENAD (2010 - 2014) (cw: addiction, sex work)
Now estranged from his mother’s support, he received a small allowance from Tomas Oscuro that enabled him to rent a shared flat at Dorothea’s whilst job hunting. His interest in runes and history led to a short stint with Borgin & Burkes, where he worked as an assistant shopkeeper and learned to appraise antiques.

Unfortunately, he was laid off a few months later for failing to come into work consistently. Nyx had fallen into heavy use of Lumos Powder and alcohol, and spent such late nights with similarly-minded folk that he was often running late to shifts.

He had, however, befriended another Knockturn regular, Birdy Rawlins, who encouraged Nyx to join her in trade under Madam Maenad at Maenad’s Garden. She knew he was a metamorphmagus and that there was good money to be made out of a skill like that in sex work.

Nyx put it off for as long as he could. Eventually, despite some nerves, he agreed to meet with Maenad to get a sense of the work - as well as an estimate of how much money he might expect to get. Madam Maenad’s age and professional manner won him over in the end.

He signed an initial one year blood contract and, after accruing experience as well as a taste for the lifestyle it afforded him, agreed to a five year contract.

Nyx continued to live at Dorothea’s and used most of his income on drugs or parties. He became especially fond of Muse and Lumos Powder, as well as various stimulants. Having learned from previous experience, Nyx did not use substances when he was required to work. Not unless a client expected it, of course.

His ability as a metamorphmagus allowed Maenad to charge a high price for Nyx’s services. As a result, he did not need to work as often as some of the Garden’s other workers. He had regulars with specific tastes and could afford to be picky as time wore on.

A couple of years before the end of his contract, a member of the Sunken Scoundrels in Manchester requested Nyx to fulfil a particular fantasy. He would go on to become a regular client, and Nyx grew increasingly friendly with the coven as a whole.

SUNKEN SCOUNDRELS (2015 - PRESENT)
Coven leader, Zara Othman, bought out Nyx’s contract in the summer of 2015 and invited him to serve as a Bloodwell[1]  in their coven.

They were fond of his company by then, and previously fed on him a few times since the legalisation of feedings.

Nyx had been struggling with addiction issues over the years and been subject to interventions by colleagues. He leapt at the coven’s offer, believing that frequent vampire bites would help to wean him off other substances. In a way, it did help. Members of the Scoundrels did not enjoy drinking blood carrying active hallucinogens or similar - Nyx was compelled to replace one addiction with another by becoming their Bloodwell.

He has remained in this position for nearly three years now. The Scoundrels take relatively good care Nyx, allowing him a good amount of freedom and pocket money. He lives on their premises in Manchester but still keeps a rented room in Dorothea’s for time away.

Nyx feels safe and stable, protected by the coven. He rarely contemplates long term plans or the shape of his future. Life is about getting through each week, one day at a time.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them: 
Nyx is a Bloodwell for the Sunken Scoundrels. He has his own room in their underground premises, and is ‘available’ for them to drink five out of seven days a week.

Although he has adjusted his sleeping schedule to suit vampiric habits, Nyx is not strictly nocturnal. He wakes in the afternoon and goes about his day before returning in time to greet the waking coven.

In addition to being a source of blood, Nyx also does the odd job around the Scoundrel’s speakeasy. He can be found pouring drinks behind the bar or entertaining patrons.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
Prior to working for the Scoundrels, Nyx worked as a sex worker at Maenad’s Garden for four years. He has been a Bloodwell since the summer of 2015.

Nyx Oscuro is an aimless wizard, dabbling in his various hobbies and interests when he isn't being Bloodwell for the Sunken Scoundrels vampire coven. He can be found at various fashionable parties, as the escort of a coven member, though most of his free time is spent enjoying himself in wizarding London or Edinburgh. Nyx enjoys making new friends though he can be inconsistent about keeping in touch.
