In a move that has inspired controversy, the board of the
Knareswick Phrontistry headquartered in Edinburgh has endowed new faculty in the burgeoning field of Mago-Muggle Studies.
"The world is changing," said Knareswick board member Angharad Hartstone. "The topic of the relationship between magical and muggle society is an old one, actually, but only in the recent decade has it begun to gain a serious scholarly body. Knareswick wishes to join in, lead the way, even."
The sorcerer in question is Austrian academic and spellbinder Fabian Makinde. Dr Makinde holds advanced honors from the Austrian National Institute of Magic and
Laevenstrome's Fundunct of Sorcery in the United States, and a muggle Ph.D. from the University of Cologne in Germany.
The announcement has drawn alarm from organizations concerned with the Statute of Secrecy and see the move as an unveiled nod to the so-called Futurist movement.
Hartstone denied any connection. "The quest for knowledge and understanding, our duty to curiosity, should not be quelled by that sort of squeamishness. Knareswick seeks to find, wherever that leads."
Knareswick was established in 2013 and has about 15 full-time teaching faculty serving about a 100 students. Funding for this position came from anonymous private donors.
