In the Texas wastes
Lucinda squirmed in her sleeping bag, the night was too hot, the clouds had remained in the sky for the most part. Or it may not really be that hot, she hadn't been in the country long enough to get used to the heat. It didn't help that that there was little wind at the time so opening the flap to her tent would not work as the fire was still dying out so all she would get is smoke and heat from that.
She moved out of the sleeping bag slowly so she could remove the pajama's she wore, she didn't know why she had them on when it was this hot and dry. the shirt was practical ruined by her sweating, who would live in a country like this if it wasn't for Disney? It isn't even the most magical place. Hogwarts is more magical! But she froze before she could do anything but get out of her now slippery sleeping bag.
A large shadow moved across the tent, obscuring the dwindling fire for a few moments. There aren't any bears here are there? She thought to herself, its the desert, where would they be? It could be a magical creature, she could wake dad to show him! She looked for her shoes and tipped them upside down to shake, making sure no bugs were inside before popping them on.
The tent unzipped and slowly slipped out of the tent, looking about the area they were camped she looked over their set up. Two tents, both to her chagrin being muggle ones. Her dad said it would be fun but she would of preferred a better one. Preferably one where she doesn't boil alive or has a working cooker. Also around were a set of chairs, all pointed around the fire with stones as an outline then some sticks and coals they had to bring with them. A large rock stood by the side that she had used for shade as her parents set things up. Although it didn't take that long, both cheated by using magic. She missed her wand, it had been left in the UK as she can't use magic outside of school, she argued she couldn't practice but her parents said no.
She found the creature standing the other side of the fire, appearing as a giant ball of fur, she couldn't get a better look as she approached. It looks like...a bear? But, it looks smaller? She struggled to tell what it is as she moved to its side. Then she saw its eye snap at her, and the reflection of the moon. "Oh....oh shi-"
Suddenly she was thrown backwards by the beast as it rose to its full height, displaying its slim and haired body, along with its two outstretched arms each ending in razor sharp claws. She started to scramble to her feet before she felt a burning sensation along her spine, daggers piercing the skin and digging in deep. She tried to scream, she couldn't, the pain caught in her throat and robbed her of her voice.
Her leg spasmed and kicked at the beast, hitting with enough force to cause the creature to recoil for a moment, she managed to find her feet, adrenaline taking over despite her back feeling like she was on fire. As she tried to run to her parents tent she lost her footing, collapsing onto all fours as it towered over her, sword like teeth suddenly buried themselves into her, she felt the dinner she had leave her mouth as the pain overwhelmed her senses and the creature picked her off the floor.
Starting to shake its head like a dog confirming its kill she let out an ear piercing scream that no human should be capable of making, spooking the beast and she felt her flesh give way, breaking off the jaws and she went flying.
With a crack like thunder she felt herself impact, all her strength bled out of her body, the taste of iron filling then overflowing from her mouth. she felt wet but the heavens didn't open, as the creature approached again. She wanted to run, she tried to run, but she had no strength and as it pounded down on her chest she coughed up more iron, creating a red patch on its fur and more snaps echoed.
She head shouting but not what was said, the beast turned to view the noises, she tried to breathe, she couldn't get any air! White hot knives started to poke into the back of her eyes. As she tried to gasp for breath, coughing more hot iron tasting liquid from her body. She saw flames fly into the sky and form...something...but it didn't matter anymore. Her attempts to gasp for breath were failing, she didn't want to anymore.
Sleep. Her mind told her, it seemed like a good idea, her eyes hurt, closing them would be nice. And surely, rest will just help her, she needs her strength back. Just closing her eyes for a nap wouldn't...hurt...
Her eyes fluttered slowly open again, she could barely see anything but her mother rushing towards her as the fire raged still, forcing back whatever creature was there. Before everything swirled and spiraled and they were in a white room, everyone rushing to her. She couldn't make anything out, her body ached all over, burning pain spread from her left abdomen and her back, she couldn't feel her arms, or legs, or move them. Was breathing always this difficult? Each ragged breath making her entire frame shudder and spit a red hot liquid, she wanted to tell her mother she is okay. But she really..needed...sleep...atleast she wasn't in her tent anymore, it was cool here. So many people moving to her and talking to her. Wht r...sy...ng. She couldn't make anything out, even her thoughts failed to form.
She just needs a nap...and everything will be fine...
