The Spectre Clan

The Spectre Clan is an expansive pureblood Scottish family, of which central estate is located near Edinburgh. Members are scattered across the country. They are a warm, welcoming people who own Hippogriff farms and generally prefer to stay out of Purist politics. Interested in writing a Spectre? There's plenty of love and red hair to go around.

The entrance at the
Spectre Estate may be unlocked by key and charm but as the manor is known for having a life of its own, it opens without prompt for a small number of members. Its rule - that the doors cannot be locked against those who would never shut them to anyone in need, regardless of blood or creed.

Former Head of Clan
Balthair Spectre. 89 years old. Grandfather to Balfour and eldest pureblood wizard of the Scottish clan, former Dragon Handler, one of two people for whom the estate doors open without prompt. He is a widower and was known to have been deeply in love with his wife, who passed many years ago now. Artis Spectre loved the clan even though her marriage to Balthair had been strongly opposed on account of her family having little money and few connections.

Bit of an old-fashioned grumpy bastard but ultimately down to earth and progressive in his ideas of wizarding society. Father of ten children.

Personally handpicked Balfour as clan heir, fearing that the generation after his own was still too susceptible to Purist leanings and easily seduced by the lifestyles of Pureblood aristocracy.

Head of Clan
Balfour Spectre. 35 years old. Only pureblood heir to his father, eldest heir of his generation, the second person for whom the estate doors open. Head ofthe Ministry's Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and well known public figure in gossip rags. Engaged to be married to Johann Storm. Currently resides on the estate as Head of Clan. Inherited estate when Balthair chose to step down. Popular on account of his manners and devotion.

A good leader and charming host - loves fiercely. Claims to be non-confrontational. Is mostly wrong.

Has no intention of continuing exclusively Pureblood, patriarchal lineage.

Scribe
Nathaira Spectre. 39 years old. Half-blood sister to Balfour and is acting caretaker of the estate should her brother or his family be away. Duties as clan scribe include keeping and maintaining historical family records. Known for being extremely reliable and level-headed in an emergency. Has married into the Rosier family but intends to retain her surname.

Inherited her great grandmother's stern stare, capable of quieting most people and some creatures.

A senior editor and Magizoologist for the Scottish Journal of Magizoology, Knox sometimes consults for Level 4 at the Ministry

William and Katrine
Father and (non-biological) mother to Balfour Spectre. William was considered heir to the clan until 1993, when his threats to cross his son off the clan wall for pursuing a dragon handling career forced Balthair's hand. William's brother, a dragon handler, had been killed by a dragon in his training - as a result William is strongly set against the occupation and considered a worrywart by most of the family. His wife Katrine is a patient, fussy witch. She is decidedly more open-minded but does not set herself against William.

Cormag and Goraidh
Balfour's older twin brothers. Cormag is married to a Japanese witch and settled in Sapporo, Japan. He is a beast handler and has sustained many injuries in his line of work. Cormag and his wife are uninterested in becoming parents. Goraidh presently resides at and works at one of the clan's Hippogriff farms as a Handler - he is a bit of a social recluse and mostly enjoys the company of animals. Adoptable NPCs.

Aisling Cooper
Daughter of the late Myrna Spectre (daughter of Balthair). A prevalent sight at the Spectre Estate and godmother to Nathaira's imminent child. Cousin favourite of Balfour and Nathaira Spectre. Significantly more aware of contemporary and muggle society than any of her Scottish family members, who live with a foot in the past. Owner of Wyrmwood Grove.
