[Nov 6th] Mind if I tag along? [Dessa]

on June 26, 2012, 07:24:51 AM

The wee hours of the morning, Gryffindor Common room

Kiba rubbed his sore eyes after reading yet another book. He had to get this perfect, after his little mishap with a certain purple potion in a certain grils bathroom, he was making sure he knew exactly what he had to do. Kiba wasn't really one for hitting the books and buckling down for some study, so staying up very late doing so, was very much a change for him. He was usually practicing his Animagus transformations at this time. So, Kiba sat in front of the dying fire of the Gryffindor common room, reading thick tomes that he hardly understood any of, preparing himself for his grand plan.

Well, grand was kind of an understatement, it was complex though, not to mention very dangerous if done incorrectly. He was planning to make a 'body swap' potion and use it on a certain Slytherin Fourth year that had annoyed him during their previous duel. He had to make sure he got the whole process of making it correct, if he wanted to have lasting effects that is. Picking up his quil, Kiba scribbled another ingredient followed by a few notes under a heading 'What I need to make O'Doherty pay'. Kiba pulled another book in to his lap and yawned as he opened it, reading a section for the correct uses of goosegrass.

Kiba didn't hear or see as another person entered the common room, seemingly unaware to the world around him as he was, for the first time in his life, absorbed in a book. Who knows, maybe he had a future in potion making after all.

When Dessa wandered down to the common room at dark-o-clock in the morning, all she'd had in mind was a comfortable chair in front of the crackling embers of the fire. She wasn't even entirely certain that
she was allowed to be edown here at this hour, but she had reached her wit's end in terms of getting to sleep.

She navigated the old stone steps leading down to the common room with great care. The last thing she wanted to do was cause a racket and wake anyone up. In fact, when she finally reached her destination and saw a hunched figur4e facing away from her, her heart seized in her chest. She must have woken someone up, and now she was going to get in trouble and...wait. If this person was mad at her, why were they ignoring her presence here? She sidled closer to the figure, pursing her lips in apprehension, until she was about a foot away from the figure.

It definitely wasn't a teachern but rather a dark-haired boy who looked several years older than her, his face twisted in concentration as he hunched over an ancient looking book. She felt the knot in her stomach unwind. Clearly this kid was here of his own accord, perhaps even in the same predicament as Dessa.

She spent a few moments surverying him, but after a while the silence became too much for Dessa. She was not a quiet person. "Hi," she said, hoping not to startle him. "Whatcha doing?"

Kiba flinched slightly and immediately turned to face the speaker. He hadn't expected anyone else to be up at this time. Taking in the girls appearance with a critical eye, Kiba frowned a bit, realising she was a first year or possibly even a small second year. Maybe he would've been more pleased for her to be an older student, one that could have helped him with understanding all this complicated theory. Or maybe not, firsites were less likely to rat him out to a higher authority if he played his cards right and this girl didn't seem like one of those goodie-two-shoes. Excellent.

Picking up his list he was working on only moments ago, he passed it to the girl. He wasn't sure why, maybe he was sleep deprived, but he felt he could trust her with his plans. Also, what Gryffindor would pass on the chance of messing with a Slytherin? The worst she could do was go back to bed. Why was she out of bed anyways.

"I'm getting revenge," He said quietly, shifty eyes darting around the room, "Don't tell anyone, okay? Or you'll be next on my list. I'm Kiba, by the way, perhaps you've heard of me?" Now, Kiba had no idea why he was acting so strange. He needed to sleep more. Or perhaps he caught some sort of study disease? Yeah, that's it, this much study can't be too good for someone.

Dessa was almost surprised when the older boy handed her a piece of parchment and launched into an explanation of what he was doing, as opposed to trying to beat her up, or calling her curly-top and patting her on the head, both of which were fairly frequent occurences when dealing with the older members of any house.

She got over her surprise quickly, however, and it was replaced with delight. "Of course I won't tell anyone, are you daft?" Dessa scooted around the sofa and dropped down beside him, surveying the mess of books and papers. Words jumped out at her from each paper, and she grinned as she began to form a picture of what this guys was going for. "Kiba...erm...maybe. You're sort of a trickster, aren't you? Pleasure to make your 'quaintance, then. My name's Dessa. So what's the revenge for?"

Kiba nodded at the girls response, finally getting a name to go with her face. Though, he had to admit, she didn't look like a 'Dessa', he was expecting something more like 'Shirley', but that's what he thought all ridiculously curly haired girls should be called. He grinned wickedly at her when she asked what his revenge was for. "My revenge is for a certain Slytherin, but that doesn't matter." He said, waving it off, "All that matters is that he annoyed me beyond belief and he deserves punishment. I was thinking of throwing this 'Body Swap' potion stuff in his face. It's a pretty good plan if I do say so myself."

Looking over at Dessa slowly, Kiba narrowed his eyes and clenched his jaw. "It's a tricky process though, to make it." He mumbled, looking back over the the many books around him, "I've got so much to do, so if you're just going to sit there and ask questions then I'll have to ask you to leave. Otherwise, pick up a book and look up how to properly ferment Bulbadox juice." He flipped a page, not looking back at the young girl and continued to read.

Dessa tilted her head and scruntinized the boy for a moment before nodding abruptly, her curls bouncing. "Any revenge on a Slytherin sounds good to me." She replied, leaning forward to snatch a book off the table. The heavy tome was obviously ancient, and although the cover was coated with dust, she could just make out the words stamped in gold across its leather front: "A Modern Guide to Flobberworm Rearing?" she read allowed. "How is that meant to help? Did you look at these before you grabbed them, or did you just take whatever looked musty and wisdomful?"

Dessa couldn't be too vindictive about this, considering the fact that she often used the same method herself when taking out books to study for homework, so she kept her tone joking.

Kiba's eyes snapped up and face flushed slightly at her comment as he quickly took the book back off her. "Hey now, no dissing the master. I'm not all that familiar with the whole 'Study' concept, these books looked like they could help me." He said as looked among the books for a more appropriate title. "I've already had a big enough mishap on the potions front to make me want to get this right. Nothing is going to go wrong this time."

He handed her a heavy book with a blue front, The Mechanics of Brewing and Stewing. "Better?" He asked with a smirk. If they could pull this off, it would be great! His stomach was doing flips in excitement as he realised how good this prank was. Swapping bodies with someone for a day? It would cause so much confusion and leave plenty of room for drama and fun!

Dessa laughed and nodded, accepting the new volume. They sat in silence for a while, and Dessa became engrossed in the pages of the book. Once you got passed the technical terms, it's contents were actually somewhat interesting--and certainly useful. She snatched a scrap of parchment and a quill off the table in front of her and scrawled a few notes from the book that looked promising.

The prospect of this prank slowly began to take further hold of Dessa, and she felt a spark of excitement. "You know," she said casually, "Since I'm helping you out with this and all, I don't really think it's fair that only you get to use it. How about I take some too, for a little prank or revenge of my own?"

Kiba had to tear his eyes away from the page as Dessa spoke up. Never in a million years would anyone be seeing Kiba Attwood, the lazy airhead wanting to keep reading. He listened with a small smile as the girl explained that she wanted some on the concoction. Share? Kiba didn't think there would be enough to share, he did only have the calculations to make enough for one dose, even though he did have stacks of extra ingredients.

"You're a sneaky one, Dessa. I like the way you think, you should never do what you are good at for free." He grinned widely, shaking his head, "We'll have to double all the calcuations then. Don't worry, I've got enough of everything to body-swap the whole school."

Kiba finished his sentence and returned to his reading, but Dessa continued staring at him, the gears in her head turning. "Enough for the whole school, huh?" she asked slowly, knotting her fingers together and cracking her knuckles absently. What would it be like, watching everyone in the school switch bodies?

It was insane, insurmountable, nearly impossible...and yet...who didn't dream of pulling off the ultimate prank, especially right in time for Halloween. The thought was persistent, and the more she thought about it, the less outlandish it seemed. "That could work..." she murmured.

Kiba and Dessa may has well been cackling like old hags as they devised their plan to swap the bodies of everyone in the school. They prepared the neccessary quantities of the potion and were extremely pleased that it was in powder form, all the more easier to spread around. The only problem the time and place in which there were going to hit everyone in the school with it. After much consideration and silent bickering, Dessa came up with the Great Hall at breakfast time. Almost everyone (besides those who slept in or didn't eat breakfast) was going to be there, including professors and the visiting schools. The only thing left to address was how to get it to everyone. Putting it in their food and drinks would be almost impossible and they couldn't just run around throwing the stuff at them. They had to come up with something that wouldn't be able to be traced back to them.

So with that in mind, Kiba and Dessa headed out of the Gryffindor common room and made their way to the owlery, planning to somehow get the owls to carry the potion in their beaks or claws, something like that. They hadn't really thought it through, but they would do that when they got there.
