Appearance: Maya is an older Iranian-Swedish witch with long black hair, deep voice, and an intense expressive face.

Short Bio: Irene-Strangely is one of the foremost werewolf scholars in the world. Her research includes how lycanthropy intersects with the personal, social, and political lives of werewolves, and is an active advocate for werewolf well-being and equity. Some say she is ahead of her time in treating lycanthropy as a blameless curse, and that the danger werewolves pose is a symptom of an intolerant society - the curse itself a curse of culture rather than the individual.

Sometime around 2009, after research and consideration, she reversed her position on werewolf registration from supporting the mandatory program to advocating for its abolishment.

At Absit Omen

  • She cautioned the Daily Prophet that most werewolves are law-abiding when Knox Greyfriar was attacked in Hogsmeade in 2008 [1]
  • When a werewolf attacked Diagon alley in 2008, she was quoted the Daily Prophet. [2]
  • Quoted in the Daily Prophet expressing resigned disbelief in the daylight werewolf attacks, which would herald one of the first hints of Direwolves [3]
  • In 2009, Knox Greyfriar mused she'd be a good Minister for Magic [4]
  • Quoted in the Daily Prophet when an unnamed unregistered werewolf was found dead in May 2010. [5]
  • Counselled Minister of Magic Persepolis Zephyr briefly in 2010: [6]

Plot:Tale of Greer Grant

Notable Quotations =

If there was one small mercy in the Werewolves's Curse, it was the loss of one's mind. For the full moon, the body misplaces sense and seeing and the Curse did the driving, in all its blinded savagery. [12]
