The Non Flying Carpet
Overview
A curious magical carpet (pictured to the side) that followed Philo Falkin out of the Room of Requirement from a scavenging venture at the end of the 2009 term. It's been in his trunk since then and during the Egypt Summer Tour it becomes readily rambunctious.
Nicknamed "Runner" by Alvis Norling.
Origin
Amahté Ialu was a wizard and pharaoh from ancient Egypt. Obsessed with achieving immortality, he collected numerous artifacts to assist him on his ambition, notably this unique carpet for protection and companionship. Given how Amahté Ialu clung to life, he remained as a ghost that now haunts his tomb, unable to do anything with his treasures. Because of a stipulation in his trade agreement for the carpet, Ialu has to 'walk across it' once a millennium so it can continue to function. The carpet has thus been stolen, lost, and returned many times through Ialu's tomb. Most recently this task was carried out by Philo, Alvis, and Abigail Reid.
Observed Abilities
It seems this magic carpet can do much except fly.
- Animation - The carpet slithers or scuttles to move around, occasionally rolling into a cylinder.
- Entrapment - When certain knots along the fringe are tied, the carpet will ensnare anyone that walks across it.
- Slipping through Gaps - The carpet can slip through gaps even thinner than itself, notably the space under doors.
- Cushioning - Landing on the carpet from any fall will absorb the impact, making the landing safe.
