What is known
One of those old sorcerers held together with string and nightshade, according to Zelda Sellaphix.
The necromancer is not necessarily the owner of Grimshaw Tailoring and Alterations, but she does arrange payments and deliveries. Many who conduct dodgy dealings at Grimshaw's leave offerings for her on the counter.
What is unknown (spoilers)
The necromancer is not quite human any longer. She would have been alive in the 1400s, when she made a deal with the Grimshaw's family to save their sick daughter, Faustina Grimshaw. In the British Museum library, Bagnold and Aileen found a copy of the musical runes that sealed the deal, though they don't yet know what it means. To keep Faustina alive (sort of) and to retain control of the shop and ossuary that the necromancer was given in exchange, the necromancer uses ritual song every 28 years to lure victims in, murder them for their souls, and take a body part for Faustina to use. The necromancer has mastered music magic over the hundreds of years that she's existed. She tends to pick victims who are young, musically gifted, and lack magical connections (runaways and/or muggleborns).
The bone flute that Nemo found and lost and found again is enchanted to animate things that aren't supposed to be alive, including Faustina. The initial ritual required someone to give a bone to create the flute. The necromancer has used the bone flute every 28 years, since.
She has defenses in place for the shop and may, at times, use it to attack unwanted visitors.
In 2009, she was involved in the death of Rosemary Hampton.
