The eldest of the five Bagnold siblings, Shay Bagnold currently works at the Ministry for Magic as a mid-level administrator. He is married with two children, both of whom are approximately of Hogwarts age.
Although a pureblooded wizard, Shay shares his family’s steadfast resistance to purist ideals. After the Ministry fell in 1998, he stayed behind and passed information on to those fighting on the outside. He was discovered near the end of the war and nearly sent to Azkaban. Like his younger brother, he fought at the Battle of Hogwarts.
Once the war ended, Shay resumed his position at the Ministry, where he has risen steadily through the ranks. He is extremely loyal to the Ministry as an institution. It is well known that he is very ambitious, and although he may not be likeable enough to become Minister, he aspires to be an Undersecretary someday soon.
Shay does not get along well with either his younger brother Kurby, whom he views as never getting over their werewolf father’s condition and having a dangerous hero complex, or his sister Dervla, whom he considers a necromancer and a disgrace to the Bagnold family legacy. Although he is extremely invested in maintaining appearances, he can generally be counted on to do the right thing.
