Poineros the Nasty

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Poineros the Nasty was a pureblooded wizard who lived in Ancient Greece. He was an apprentice to Herpo the Foul, the creator of the first basilisk and the first (known) Horcrux. Because Poineros was not a Parselmouth like his master, and thus unable to control a basilisk, he created the Petrifying Philter potion to duplicate the creatue’s effects.

Poineros was one of the earliest recorded blood purists; after being humiliated in a duel by a Muggle-born wizard, Poniros Petrified the man’s entire home village by poisoning them with the Petrifying Philter. He was eventually killed by an exploding potion, while trying to make a deadlier variant of his prized Petrifying Philter.
