Morrigan Ramsay is an academic to the core, and constantly trying to further her knowledge of Transfiguration. She commanded respect from her students, and can be quite opinionated on some issues. Always the hard work, Morrigan is practical and was usually found with a book in her hand when not in class. She no longer teaches a Hogwarts.
She is romantically linked to Kendall Fleetfoot, and graduated from Red Rocks Academy.
Physical Description
Morrigan stands 5’9” with red hair and green eyes. She is slender and curvy, usually showing off her curves without being inappropriate for the classroom. She is usually found in Muggle clothing, feeling more comfortable in them then traditional robes. She is also usually found with flats on, and sometimes glasses if she’s reading.
Her smile is usually more of a smirk, and her facial expressions usually convey whatever she is feeling. Her voice is able to carry well in the classroom, and rarely is said to put anyone to sleep. As she grew up in America, she has a standard American accent. Her students over the years have tried to mimic it often, something she usually finds amusing since the impressions are usually terrible.
Personality Description
Morrigan is known in the classroom as being tough, yet fair. She is extremely honest with her students on their progress and is never one to sugarcoat. She is willing to go out of her way to help a struggling student, and usually forms strong ties with those who seek her help. She is also a bit of a mother figure to her students when they are in need of one.
Morrigan can be quite opinionated, and often makes those opinions known. She can be blunt and to the point. This has caused some hard feelings over the years, and she is often apologetic after the fact for the way she may have phrased something. However, she makes no apologies for her opinions.
Having never been an overly romantic person, Morrigan is completely focused on work and study. She is a realist and an academic to the core. When not in class, she is usually found in the library doing research or outside with a book. Having been raised in an area with woods for hiking and rolling hills, she has always loved the outdoors.
History
Morrigan Elisa Ramsay was born to a Wizard father and Muggle mother in a quiet town in Maryland in 1968. Her parents ran a restaurant called The Fair Hill Inn, and kept a home above it. The house was built in 1764, and renovated by her parents. Her mother was the head chef and occasionally Morrigan would help her with a recipe, learning to cook several of her mother’s gourmet specialties at an early age. She never was as good a cook as her mother, but she picked up a few tricks.
They had a quiet life, and Morrigan always knew the truth about her father. They little family was extremely close, always going on weekend outings, especially hiking at the nearby nature center. It was no surprise when she received a letter from Red Rocks Academy at the age of eleven years old, but her mother hated the thought of her daughter being so far away. Her grandmother had attended Red Rocks, and her father as well, so it was expected she too would go to school in the western part of the United States. It was also no surprise to anyone when Morrigan’s baby sister, Clara, was born nine months after she started her studies.
Morrigan excelled in most areas of study, especially transfiguration. She made many friends within her school. She was among the top of her class, which gave her a competitive spirit, especially when up against any of the top boys.
After graduation she returned to her family home for three years to help her parents at the restaurant before accepting a position as an assistant professor back in Arizona under her former Transfiguration professor. As much as she loved her Muggle life in the restaurant, it was not her dream. Clara, who showed no signs of magical abilities, had the true natural talent for cooking, even at a young age. Morrigan, under the tutelage of her former professor, picked up the advanced spells he taught her quickly and she threw herself into her studies back at Red Rocks.
However, as the two spent more and more time together, rumors ran wild about their relationship. She could remember there always being rumors surround him and some of the older girls when she was in school, but now they were about her. Not all of them were untrue. She had always had a crush on her professor during school, and things developed quickly between them. However, she could not stand the looks she received and the whispers behind her back from those she thought were her friends. After two years as his apprentice, Morrigan knew she had to move on and accepted a position at a small Wizarding school in Canada as a Transfiguration professor, which had nearby a high learning institute for Witches and Wizards.
In 2003 she heard of an opening in her field at Hogwarts, and was pushed by a colleague to apply. She was surprised when she was offered the position, and almost turned it down. However, the allure of a new life at Hogwarts was something she could not refuse and has been teaching there ever since.
Expertise in your field
Morrigan has been teaching since she was twenty years old when she accepted the position as Assistant Professor of Transfiguration at Red Rocks Academy in Sedona, AZ, her Alma Mater. She was there for two years, learning all she could from her former professor.
She received a letter from a friend telling her of an open position at Avalonia School of Witchcraft and Wizardry which was located near the newly opened Northern Star College of Mystical Studies where she could further study Transfiguration while continuing to teach in Canada. She jumped at the chance, especially since her own studies would include a chance to work with Emeric Switch who wrote A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration. In 1996 she completed her studies, earning the equivalent of a Muggle doctoral degree.
Teaching philosophy
Morrigan believes in being honest with her students. She is always willing to tell them exactly what their strengths and weakness are in Transfiguration should they request the information. She finds the best way to teach her students is by providing a balance between theory and practice.
