Martijn is brother to Camille Duerr and Florine Bayard. Born in Belgium, Marijn moved to France and married his wife Margo Duerr (nee Rosier). The couple have a happy marriage, and five children, all who have attended Beauxbatons and are young adults, apart from the last who is a few years from finishing. Like many wizards, and genetically for the Duerrs, he has aged well.
Martijn is a transfiguration specialist, and has worked both private and Ministry contracts in Europe. He has dedicated his life to researching methods and has published three works that are on the reading list at Beauxbatons for final year students.
The Duerrs live outside of Carnac in France, famous for it's standing stones and magical community. They own a farmhouse which was a mile or so from the next house, nestled in a valley of rolling hills, walls a foot thick of stone.
Johann Storm and Vedir Prideaux are hosted as guests on April 8th, 2009 while visiting France. The house is very full and Johann feels at ease with his maternal uncle.
Camille Storm stays with Martijn a while on her own when experiencing martial problems with Wolfgang Storm in early 2010. Martijn always takes his sister's side.
