Mai Clark

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Mai Clark is a Sixth Year Ravenclaw. The only child of Amber Clark, a muggle, and Matthew Parker, a pure-blood wizard; she has been abandoned by both of her parents and has been a ward of the state until she recently came of age.

History

Born to a muggle mother and a wizard father, Mai had a rather unconventional childhood. Her mother, a devoted and right-wing Catholic, went off her rocker when she learned that her new husband was a wizard and was quick to file for divorce. Between the constant fighting and the fact that her mother was loudly spewing that she was married to a depraved savage, her father was forced to cut all contact with her, never knowing his ex-wife was pregnant with his child. Mai has never met him.

Mai has been rebelling against her mother's strict and religious rules since she was a young child and because of it she never got along with the social group (or the children in it) that her mother forced her into. Being teased for never fitting into the zealous group, her social skills have always been stunted and she grew up with a very distanced, stoic attitude towards people. It wasn't until she was eleven and her letter to Hogwarts came that everything changed forever.

Mai was never religious like her mother and their 'friends'; when the letter came, she was surprised and a little cautious. A hoax set up by her mother? She thought so until a screaming match between them came the truth–her father was a wizard that her mother had chased away because of the 'satanic rituals' he brought into their house.

For better or worse, that admission set Mai's mind to go to Hogwarts despite her mother's threats that if she went, not to return. Mai left to Hogwarts and during the summer returned to an empty house. Her mother was long gone, having abandoned her daughter and her house behind. Mai has been bounced from foster home to foster home since then with none of the families keeping her for more than six months and has only very recently started living on her own during the summer break, working to pay for her needs as she's no longer under the state's care.
