Iris Ward is a first-year Ravenclaw. She is the only child of a wizard and a muggle woman. She is clever and sharp-tongued, traits which frustrate and impress in equal measures.
History
Iris was born in Winchester on a blustery March day. She was raised primarily by her father, as her mother was and remains a very busy woman with a job that requires her to travel more often than not. Her father taught her nearly everything she knows, from maths to writing to debate. He also taught her the importance of questioning everything, especially that which seems most obvious. When the telephone spontaneously combusted after a particularly frustrating lesson, he taught her about the Wizarding world and Hogwarts and what to expect in the coming years.
Being homeschooled, Iris didn't meet many kids her age, and being raised in Winchester, the ones she did meet weren't magical. She didn't make friends easily, as she preferred to read and gather information than play in the grass.
Learning about magic was Iris' favorite subject. After the fateful telephone incident, her father told her about magic, and she constantly pressed him for more information. Was he magical? (Yes.) Did she get to go to magic school? (Also yes.) Did he? (Yep.) What was it like? Are there lots of magic people? What kinds of magic are there? She was ecstatic when she got her letter (although somewhat surprised when an owl decided her bedroom was objectively the best place to deliver it) and begged her father to take her shopping for supplies immediately.
