Info:Major Roles
Some characters at Absit Omen are more popular and more central to the roleplay than others, and so some special rules apply.
LEVEL I
- ‡Headmaster
- Deputy Headmaster
- Heads of House
- ‡Minister of Magic
These roles will have the two week proposal period.
- In-Character
- Not entry level: Characters must have a solid education and substantial experience. The Hogwarts Headmaster and the Minister of Magic must have at least 15 years experience in a related field.
- Must role-play performing their duties actively.
- Professors must meet the minimum class requirement (Starting, actively developing, and completing 1 or 2 classes every role-play month) and the minimum experience (at least 30 years old, 10 years relevant work experience).
- Out-of-Character
- These positions require a writer to actively plot and cooperate with other members.
- The Minister of Magic and the Hogwarts Headmaster cannot be your first character at AO.
If more than one person submits a proposal, then Curators will flip a coin among all qualified proposal. The selected writer will have 1 week to submit a completed biography.
- ‡Consistency Principle for Hogwarts Headmistress and Ministry of Magic
- Should either of these posts become Inactive or unfilled, the Curators may NPC (or grant members permission to NPC) the character for official business to ensure continuity and keep plots and events moving. (Example: Start of term feast.)
- When possible, preference will be given to opportunities that keep the same character in the post to reduce turnover, i.e. adoption or passing a canon character. However, this shouldn't stand in the way of getting an active writer in the post.
LEVEL II
- Hogwarts Professors
- Department Heads
- St. Mungo's Healer-In-Charge
These roles do not have a proposal period.
- In-Character
- Not entry level: Characters must have a solid education and substantial (~10 years) experience. Visiting School *Heads must have at least 15 years experience.
- Must role-play performing their duties actively.
- Professors must meet the minimum class requirement. (Starting, actively developing, and completing 1 or 2 classes every role-play month.)
- Out-of-Character
- These positions require the writer to actively plot and cooperate with other members.
These posts will be first-come, first-serve as long as the biography meets qualifications.
LEVEL III
- Head Boy
- Head Girl
- Quidditch Captains
- Prefects
These roles are primarily allotted in-character.
- In-Character
- The Hogwarts school rules outline specific requirements for student leadership roles. Students must have solid academic and disciplinary standing.
- Prefects: Only 5th, 6th, 7th years. One boy, one girl per year.
- Prefects and Head Boy/Girl must role-play performing their duties actively.
- Quidditch captains must hold practices and help form the rosters for each match.
- Student leadership roles will be chosen at the start of each term by active professor ballot. Preference will be given to students who already hold those roles.
- During the term, empty roles will be filled first-come, first-serve as long as the biography meets qualifications.
For all roles, if the character falls Inactive for any reason, the spot is considered open. Open major roles will be announced about once a month in the Fortnight Flier.
Additional Activity Requirements
Because the Major Roles are so central to roleplay and because many are very popular, they are held to stricter activity requirements. These extra expectations are detailed above under each major role.
- The additional activity requirements will be checked at the end of each in-character semester. (IC June and IC December.)
- If a character in a Major Role stays active but fails to meet additional activity requirements, the writer will be asked to transition their character out of the Major Role at that time.
- After six OOC months have passed, if the writer feels that they will now be able to keep up with the activity requirements, they are welcome to reapply for the Major Role position, provided that the role is open and the character meets all current IC requirements.
- When a character is reinstated, they will be checked midway through the current semester. After this point, they will then be subject to all regular checks at the end of a semester. If the character fails to meet activity requirements for a second time, they unfortunately will be asked to transfer out of the position again and will not be able to reapply.
