Hugh Clyde was a well-meaning sort of Hufflepuff. But he was easily influenced, and not the brightest. He was however, rather strong in form, broadening as a teenager and rather well placed as the quidditch team's beater. If he had been better, he might have tried out for a proper team, but Clyde lacked direction in life.
His father was a member of the patrol before him, and Clyde signed up the moment he was of age, forgoing his attempts to study for any NEWTs. He preferred being busy, seeing some action rather than being academic. He took pride in wearing his uniform and carrying out his duties, even if they weren't always very enjoyable.
When the Ministry was taken over, Clyde was quickly given new directives and often accompanied Lawrence Musgrave with the interrogation of Muggle Borns. He was part of the team who arrested Evangeline Kuester in August 1997, mistaking her bilingualism for 'speaking in tongues'.
When the Ministry was restored in 1998, Clyde was held accountable for his actions with Muggle Borns and served a decade in Azkaban.
