History of Magic is one of the core classes held at Hogwarts. It has a reputation, courtesy of Professor Binns, of being incredibly dull. It seeks to teach students about the History of Wizardkind; focuses include the separation and the Wizarding & Goblin Wars.
Perhaps needless to say, not many students rank it as their favorite course, though with the advent of professors who can speak in anything other than a droning monotone, the class has improved considerably.
Professor Binns occasionally make reappearences as a substitute teacher. His delivery has not approved at all.
Classroom
Classes take place on the First Floor of Hogwarts, in a lecture-hall style'd room with row desks and a central podium for the professor.
Under Professor Jowd, the room is flat with two pillars supporting the ceiling, allowing for a variable number of work tables pointed towards the lectern in front of the hearth fireplace. The room is decorated with tapestries and cabinets of antiques. Opposite the entryway is another door, usually locked, that leads to a windowless room with a pool sized pensieve.
At some point during the changing of instructors part of the hallway to the History of Magic classroom gained blue couches and various art pieces of Merperson culture, framed by enchanted blue mist that is dry to the touch. It sometimes wafts into the classroom.
