History of Defence

From Absit Omen Lexicon

History of Defence is a NEWT level text book for Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts School. Its author, Regulum Leonard (NPC) compiled over one hundred accounts of witches and wizards through the ages using defensive techniques, and illustrating important developments. It was published in 2002 and has since been translated into several other languages.

Students use the book primarily to learn the history and reasoning behind the development of particular spells and curses, and also to memorise case studies to enrich their answers in the written examination.

The cover is purple coloured, and the book is fairly weighty with thin pages, rather like a dictionary, and includes some black and white line drawing illustrations occasionally.

Regulum Leonard compiled a second volume of the book in 2013, which also sold well.

"For example, Augustus Quincey and his expedition surrounded by Amazonian wizards in 1834, under hostile attack - try to sympathise with his reaction of taking hostages, if you can, or provide alternatives if you were in his shoes. With over a hundred in the book, please entertain me with some obscure ones"
