Grigory is a Russian-born Beast Handler in his twenties known for his cheeky sense of humor, poor English skills, brutish manners and emotional, affectionate ways. After a career-ending injury put an end to professional dreams, he made a life for himself focusing on the handling and care of magical creatures. At present he lives with his best friend Irina Manning and two dogs, Perun and Lelya.
He graduated from Koldovstoretz.
Family
Both parents are wizards; father Boris, however, is muggleborn, while mother Ekaterina comes from a slightly more established family. Like many, Grigory's paternal grandparents had worked in factories. Younger brother Vasily (19) is a professional ice quidditch player; sister Ksenia (16) is a student at Koldovstoretz.
History
Grigory’s childhood was not an easy one. Though the Gonchars were better off than their muggle neighbors, money was still an issue; Boris, an underpaid clerk, and Ekaterina, a seamstress, had to change jobs all the time just to get by. When Vasily was born, Grigory took care of him while they were working. Political turmoil – the dissolution of the USSR, the constant wars and brutal regimes – did not make things any easier.
Durmstrang was too expensive, so their parents sent him to Koldovstoretz. Three years later, Ksenia arrived. By then, Grigory was showing great promise at ice quidditch. By his fourth year Grigory was on a scholarship, which helped out the family greatly.
After a career-ending injury put an end to professional dreams, he developed an interest in magical beasts and, after graduation, took a job at Altai Sanctuary and Reserve. But as his focus grew, so did his restlessness. Three years later, he transferred to the British Ministry of Magic. At present he works on Level 4, with Beast Division.
Relationships
Despite his poor English, Grigory is fairly easy to get along with. He is competent and focused, but also patient, cooperative and friendly, with enough quirks to offset a possibly alarming appearance. As a result, he is often put in charge of training the rookies and can be found around the kennels, a few of them trailing behind him.
He is very close with his family, and generally well-liked by those he sees and deals with on a regular basis. The only people whom he doesn't get along with are those who look down on him and his family, those he finds arrogant and rude, and exes such as Augustine Fortescue.
He is currently dating Primrose Woolfolk.
