Etymology: The spell is derived from the English words "flip" and "end," simply meaning "to flip someone onto their end".

References: It was invented by Ravenclaw student Badeea Ali in the 1989–1990 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, after Ben Copper asked her to invent a more powerful variation of the Knockback Jinx. After the spell was finished, Badeea Ali taught Merula Snyde and another student how to cast it.
