Emmett is an underachiever when it comes to school, but an overachiever when it comes to networking. He doesn’t believe that school will get him where he wants after school as he does not have his mind set on the Ministry. He is a heartbreaker and a pain in the ass, but he does have a heart hidden somewhere. Emmett works hard but only when it benefits himself in the end.
Physical Description
Emmett has soft features because in appearance takes after his mother more than his father. He does not have overly defined cheekbones or a pointed chin, though his facial shape is more oval and long. He has full lips and they appear quite pink against his pale skin (which he often hates). His eyes are equally shocking blue against the paleness of his skin. It would help if he spent more time outside than in a kitchen or didn’t have such dark brown, that when he lets grow to long falls into his eyes. His most noticeable feature, other than his eyes, is probably his eyebrows as they natural peak near the end.
Emmett is a skinny kid, not exactly muscular either. He has the body of a seeker if he toned up a bit more. He is just a skinny pale kid, which when you find out his eating habits is probably a bit shocking. Emmett comes from money, therefore he has a well stocked closest of designer clothes. Emmett is a well-dressed teenage boy and is darn proud of it. He is more worried about his appearance than he lets on. His attire really is an extension of his mood, the worse mood he is in the less he cares about his appearance or the state of his clothes.
Personality Description
Emmett Rideau is the type of boy that won’t work hard at anything unless it has great benefit for him. He has had his life handed to him on a silver platter thus far, and doesn’t feel he really needs to apply himself at something that does not give good benefits. There are only a few classes he actually makes an effort in, but even then his grades are average because Emmett is just not of the academic mind. He catches on to things a big slower, but it could also have to do with watching girls rather than focusing in class.
Emmett is not a push over, nor is he gullible, he actually has a lot of sense when it comes to the social aspect of his life. He knows when to keep his mouth shut and when to follow orders. He is not a leader; he is a follower and does so with class. As long as there is a benefit in the end he will stand behind the leader with almost blind faith. He does have a mind of his own but he uses that to find the right sort of person to support.
Passion is something Emmett has, but puts it to use in things less than productive manner. His father disapproves of the fact Emmett is so passionate about cooking and baking, and that he wont apply it to anything else. He is probably happiest in the kitchen, he is actually really good and wishes to one day make a career out of it, even if his father disapproves. His father says it is woman’s work.
Emmett is quite self-indulgent; he loves doing things that make a gain for him and hopefully nobody else. He can be quite greedy in his actions and would flirt with girls for the end benefit of getting something from them and then not sticking around. He has yet to have his heart stolen, and actually likes it that way because it protects the emotions he does actually have. Emmett knows he comes across as a pompous ass that looks out for himself but there really is more to him deep down.
He is the type of person that struggles to ask for help, which is another reason he struggles with school. He gets frustrated when things aren’t easy and he has to actually work at it. He finds cooking so easy and enjoyable, which is why he puts his efforts into that rather than his studies. He doesn’t mind helping or following the orders of others, but he wont ask for help from these people unless he really needs too.
Like most boys his age he is a heartbreaker, and likes it that way. He knows he comes across as a bit of an ass, and not all that pleasant to be around. He always seems to climb the social ladder and get somewhere. He loves to network so that when he leaves Hogwarts he will have something to get him somewhere. He knows he does not have the smarts to get into the Ministry, but maybe he could find investors for his own business. Networking is key to success, especially when you lack the academic smarts to fall back on. Due to his interest in making connections, with the right people for his needs, he is quite a smooth talker. He has been known to weasel his way out of trouble now and then, or to get something someone wasn’t originally going to part with.
History
The tale of how Emmett Damien Rideau came to be in England starts with the story of his parents. Remi Rideau was a Beauxbatons graduate, French born and raised. Remi would meet Evelyn Shaw a young muggle tourist in Paris. Remi being the foolish young pureblood wizard fell for the beautiful American student and swept her off her feet. They had a fling but as Remi planned he would disappear from her life, but it wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be because Evelyn Shaw became pregnant. Remi knew that his child would be magical, how could he not from the long line of the French Rideau’s. He couldn’t let the Rideau era be raised by some struggling muggle artist student with the thoughts of love and romance. He said that he would stick around and help her raise the child. Evelyn could not bring herself to abort the pregnancy but she never wanted a child for she was only eighteen, where as Remi at age twenty-three was a bit more grounded as a lawyer (unknown to Evelyn in a Wizarding Firm). It was decided that Remi would raise the child, and with family money (he had kept hidden from Evelyn) it was going to be much easier for him. Emmett Damien Rideau came into the world March 21st 1991. For the first two years of his life Evelyn was apart of it, visiting often but Remi kept the magical side of his life hidden from the muggle woman. When Emmett was two his father was asked to be one of the men to help start the Firm in England, which resulted in Remi moving with his son to London, in a beautiful and large flat. Evelyn would visit now and then, until she discovered the side of Remi’s life he had been keeping from her.
Evelyn Shaw was disgusted by this so called magic and thought Remi to be nuts until the magic was displayed to her. She thought Remi to be an abomination and expected her son to be the same way. She left attempting for forget about her child and Remi. She wanted nothing to do with a son destined to be so strange and unnatural. Being of the Christian faith it went against everything she believed in. Remi never knew if Evelyn returned to France or America and to be truthful he didn’t care. Finally after all these years he could slip away and for the most part forget about the foolish fling, even if he had a son to remind him of it.
Remi would do his best to raise Emmett. He of course had to hire help, being a man of business he did not have time to spend all day everyday with his son. So Emmett was raised by their full time live in nanny, who made all meals for Remi and Emmett. The plump witch was the reason for Emmett’s interest in cooking and encouraged it to blossom behind her employers back. Emmett never got the chance to thank her for that, as once he was of age to attend school her employment was no longer needed. As Remi believed since Emmett was old enough to attend school he did not need a nanny during the summers, only hiring a witch to cook and clean.
Like all young wizards he received an owl to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He had lived in England for most of his life, and Remi felt it best for Emmett to attend Hogwarts, as his son’s French was so poor. He would have preferred his son to attend the same fine establishment he had but many of the men who worked for him raved about the brilliance of Hogwarts. Remi had his doubts, especially with the events that had taken place at the school during the war, which he took a neutral stance on. He has spent years defending the men and woman who were dubbed Death Eaters. Still it was decided it was in his son’s best interest to attend Hogwarts despite its history. He wanted his son to get a good education to one day be capable to follow in his footsteps.
Whilst at Hogwarts Emmett showed little interest in his academics and was more fascinated by the work of the House Elves in the kitchens below. He became a frequent visitor to the kitchens once he discovered their location and the secret to entering. He was not bothered about his homework, and even when he did it he was not exactly the best in class. He was much more interested in hanging out with his friends and enjoying his time at school.
Over the years at school Emmett made a bit of a name for himself. With the professors it was the slacker who really needed to apply to himself. Though the overall name Emmett made for himself was being a smooth talker. He had even talked himself into a higher grade on an essay a few times. The girls knew Emmett as a heartbreaker by the time he was in fifth year. Emmett was always looking for the easy way out and working hard at things that benefited him.
Fifth year was really when he started to see the benefits of networking, knowing that the way to get ahead in life was through connections. The better connections you had the better off you were. He was much more interested in networking than studying for his OWLs, but eventually h did buckle down knowing that it had a benefit and that being able to make it into sixth year, which was why he was seen cramming for his tests near the end of the year.
School life has been relatively normal for Emmett; it is his home life that has started to change. He returned home for the summer between his fifth and sixth year to find that his father had a girlfriend, and they were to be married over the summer. Needless to say it was a big change for Emmett he had never had a woman figure in his life beyond nanny. Now there was this woman trying to take the stepmother role, one that Emmett was wary about. He has still yet to let her in and really make a connection with her. What bothers him most is how young she is, as she is barely older than he is. Needless to say he now dreads returning home for the summer holidays as that woman is around disturbing the flow he and his father had, and he doesn’t particularly like what she has done decoration wise.
How Do You Fit Into Your House?
Emmett fits into his house because he will do anything to achieve the outcome he wants. He is known for making connection with friends and standing behind his friends. He might be selfish but he does have a soft spot for friends no matter how much he hides it.
