Direwolves
Beginning in the fall of 2008, Cináed Tawse began meddling with the werewolf curse, in an attempt to create a more powerful, more dangerous, and more easy to control creature. Cinaed merely calls them 'my werewolves', but in the wake of the march attacks, the media has begun calling this type of abominated werewolf direwolves.

Origin
Cináed Tawse started with a single werewolf and began to concentrate the saliva (the vessel of the curse). With other magical influences, including Runespoor Venom, Tawse was able to create a serum that when injected into a witch or wizard would afflict them with his abominated werewolf curse.
Lineage
- The first werewolf was the poor soul Cinaed captured and set loose upon Knox Greyfriar. plot link
- Frank Pratt, kidnapped and unwillingly cursed
- Dugan Macduff, volunteered
- Colin Downer, kidnapped and unwillingly cursed - was already a werewolf when cursed with the direwolf strain
Full Moon
Direwolves are transformed for the entire apex of the full moon, even if it is not in the sky, even if it is daytime. The transformation time is somewhere around 72 hours.
Appearance
For the most part, direwolves show the same physical signs as classic werewolves. However, outside the full moon, the lupine tendencies are more pronounced. Because this abomination of the curse is not yet stable, this varies from person to person.
Consciousness
Unlike classic werewolves which loose all sense of humanity and memory during transformation, direwolves are more fully in control of their capacities. They are driven by a savage lust for violence and blood, but they are making their own choices, and remember their behavior after. This still varies between direwolves.
Wolfsbane Potion
To direwolves, the Wolfsbane Potion is poisonous, and they will fall gravely ill if its consumed. Obviously, it does not function the way it was meant to and does not prevent a violent transformation at the full moon.
