Dessa Share

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Dessa Alison Share is brash, headstrong, caring, and opposed to lying (she prefers complicated cover stories and clever truth twisting). She was adopted by a single father at 4 years old from a Muggle orphanage.

Physical Description

Has curly reddish-brownish hair down to her shoulders, ice green eyes, and a pale, elfish face that, unless she's angry, always seems to look happy and a little mischievous.

Personality Description

Dessa is crazy, sarcastic, quirky, passionate, loyal, witty, intelligent, and honest. The flip side of this is that she also tends to be defensive, automatically assuming that someone kidding around is trying to hurt her, and responding accordingly. She can also be overly blunt with her truths, and accidentally hurt others. However, she's not too good at holding grudges (although she really wishes she was, and pretends to be). She always needs to be doing something, and will sometimes get bizarre ideas stuck in her head that simply MUST be carried out.

She often forgets that authority figures are meant to be her superiors, and tries to joke around with them as if they're her peers. Either they really like her for this, or she's labeled insolent.

She's ridiculously stubborn, and enjoys arguing a little too much. When she's in a bad mood, she'll be rude to everyone, and nothing can be done for it, except to cheer her up.

She's very intuitive and empathetic, and often pisses people off by insisting they tell her what's wrong when they're equally vehement that they "really are okay" (except they're not).

She loves to be with people, but doesn't like huge crowds. She will go to the ends of the earth to protect the people she loves--both family and friends. She hates more than anything to see them in pain.

Dessa always has to be moving, and can be quite brash.

Dessa has an annoying tendency to be incredibly insecure, which most people won't see until they get quite close with her. No matter what her friends do to show how much they love her, she's always afraid to lose them. There's a side of her that's quite the hopeless romantic, but far be it from her to let anyone see it. She can also be a quite tricky, always coming up with complicated stories to explain away wrong-doings, that she never actually uses because she just has a problem with lying.

History

Dessa spent the first four years of her life in a Muggle orphanage. It wasn't quite the horror story that orphanages are often made out to be--she got enough food, and got along fairly well with at least half of the people (it might've been more if it weren't for her argumentative nature), but it wasn't pleasant. There were so many children that the workers simply couldn't keep track of all of them, and it wasn't uncommon for someone to be sick for long periods of time before they received attention. There was little privacy in a place where you lived with other children all the time, and roomed with at least three people. Because she left at a fairly young age, Dessa has few memories of the orphanage. However, she sometimes has flashes in dreams of her memories from that time, or even from when she was with other families. They are rarely pleasant.

She was adopted at 2 years old, but the family turned right around and brought her back when she began to exhibit signs of "extreme weirdness" (namely, levitating herself out of a crib). Of course, Dessa was too young to understand what any of this meant, or even that it made her different. As she grew, she had no control over her magic, and at most times it stayed dormant.

She was adopted by several other families that simply couldn't handle her "uniqueness". At this point, Dessa was aware that she was different, but had no idea what it meant, other than that she couldn't seem to get anyone to like her enough to keep her.

Finally, just before her 5th birthday, she was adopted by a single father, Adam Share. He took her little fits of the extraordinary in stride, and Dessa was very happy living with him. Adam had a close friend who was a wizard (not that Adam was aware of that). The friend recognized from the start that Dessa was a witch, but of course said nothing to her until the arrival of her Hogwarts letter, when he finally clued Dessa and Adam in on the wizarding world, and assured them that it was no hoax.

The friend had two children, a boy and a girl, named Ella and Dylan. Dessa grew up extremely close to them, seeing as how they were always around her house, or she around their's.

Because Dessa grew up in a Muggle home, and was unaware of her magic, she did all chores the Muggle way. However, upon learning of her abilities, she began attempting to use them to perform any and all tasks--almost always with disastrous results: a lot of power with no control and you might, say, accidentally turn your cat into a potted plant. Thankfully, that issue was quickly resolved.

Adam is a painter and postal worker, and she would often sit beside her father and write or draw while he painted. She loves theatre, and going to see plays is one of her favorite things--every year for her birthday Adam takes her to see a show of her choice.

Because he is a single father, Dessa and Adam have an extremely close relationship. She's afraid to be away from him, but she's also extremely excited to go to Hogwarts, and have all the weirdness that's plagued her explained.
