Buzzard is the pet vulture of Ligeia Canterbury. His name is a misnomer as he's actually a seven year old grey Griffon Vulture.
Buzzard was adopted when Ligeia was a child during a family vacation to Greece. Buzzard was the only surviving chick of a nest of vultures preyed upon by a manticore the Canterburys were tracking. Ligeia nursed him into a fine specimen of a bird.

At Absit Omen
As Buzzard is a vulture and not an owl he does not reside at the castle. Ligeia has trained him to remain on the grounds and Buzzard usually fends a living for himself from the Forbidden Forest. The closest he comes to the castle would be the windows of Ravenclaw Tower where Ligeia occasionally leaves him treats. Buzzard has a rivalry with the Whomping Willow and sometimes scares off owls from their kills, being a scavenger. Buzzard has tried to deliver post before but isn't a good delivery bird. The letters are mangled by his beak and talons.
Whenever Ligeia is outside Buzzard likes to roost on her shoulder or parasol and glare at people or things he thinks are about to drop dead.
