Bran Byddir

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Physical Description

At 5'11 and roughly 135 pounds, Bran is muscular but wiry. Without the oppressive effects of the dementors, Bran was able to adhere to an exercise routine during his twenty-two years in Azkaban that left him strong but with very little body fat. His skin has grown pale and his eyes are still noticeably sunken after so many years in the dimly lit prison.

Though his hair is naturally a light brown, he frequently changes the color with dye. Currently he dyes it to a pitch black, though sometimes he bleaches it to a stark white. Both are a stark contrast to his pale blue eyes, an effect he purposefully creates. He has several prominent tattoos: an intertwined serpent and dagger on his right shoulder and arm as well as an ink-darkened dark mark on his left forearm. He also has several facial piercings.

Being unemployed and only recently reintegrated with society, Bran's attire is restricted to second hand clothes and robes. He tries his best to create a patchwork style from the garments available to him but his current outfits only make him appear more scraggly. On account of his wandless status, Bran carries himself in a manner that makes him appear as imposing and commanding as possible.

Personality Description

Bran Byddir is crass and cynical, well-roughed around the edges by over two decades in Azkaban. While not naturally introverted, his school days left him with a strong disdain and distrust for those outside his social circle. He has a fairly small circle of individuals he trusts; anyone outside that circle is kept at arm's length until they've been properly measured and calculated.

Prior to ending up in Azkaban, Bran struggled with shaping his vision of his identity into something he was comfortable with and proud of. His time in Azkaban has only served to intensify his uncertainty.

History

Bran Byddir was the first born son and the eldest of three siblings born to the muggle Aeron Byddir and his wife Ceri, a muggleborn witch. A coal farmer, like his father before him, Aeron Byddir had been childhood friends with Ceri Merrick. After graduating Hogwarts, Ceri Merrick returned to Blaenavon where she opened up a small wizarding apothecary. Aeron and Ceri began dating and, three years later, Aeron learned of Ceri's magical abilities on the couple's wedding night. Bran was born two years later, followed by his younger brother Iwan and, later, their baby sister Rhian.

The first wizarding war was well underway when Bran Byddir arrived at Hogwarts and was sorted into Slytherin. It didn't take long for the eleven year old to realize the disadvantage his blood status created. He quickly began seeking a reputation apart from his blood status and grew shameful of his family background. The shame only intensified as he actively diverted his housemates' attention away from his home life and family.

At the beginning of his second year, Voldemort's attempt to murder Harry Potter resulted in the dark wizard's apparent defeat. Attitudes throughout the castle took a dramatic shift and Bran found himself the subject of more distrust as a Slytherin. For the rest of his school days, his blood status seemed to matter less. Many fellow Slytherins saw their family members arrested and sent to Azkaban. There was a new safety and camaraderie among the Slytherins as they navigated a post-Voldemort world.

Bran completed his wizarding education, earning OWLs in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Transfiguration, Divination, Charms and Ancient Runes. He earned only two NEWTs: Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms. He moved to London and got a job working in a shop in Knockturn Alley and scraping out a living.

When Voldemort rose to power the second time, Bran promptly joined the dark wizard's ranks. He started out as a snatcher and was responsible for catching, torturing and turning over almost thirty-five muggleborns to the Ministry of Magic. He was on duty in Hogsmeade the night Harry Potter's return to Hogwarts triggered the caterwauling charm. When the battle broke out, Bran fought alongside the other Death Eaters but when the Dark Lord was defeated, Bran made a break for it. He managed to evade the Ministry's capture for three months but, finally, in August of 1998, Bran stood trial. He was found guilty for muggle-baiting, torture and subversion against the Ministry. He boasts that he was the one that caused the explosion that killed Fred Weasley, but this claim has never been substantiated.

On August 28th, 1998, Bran Byddir was sentenced to 13 years in Azkaban. On May 1st, 2011, Bran was released to a Ministry Bridge House in London where he began his transition back into society. His conditional release includes a required weekly supervisory check ins and full restrictions on the possession of a wand. He is under supervision for a minimum of three years. In the spring of 2014, Bran is eligible to have a hearing in front of the Wizengemot transition further into society.
