Blossom Rose

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Blossom Rose is a Slytherin Graduate (Class of 2016). His family has had a centuries long feud with the Posada family, including his fellow Slytherins Rico Posada and Mercedes Posada

Physical Description

Short for his age, Blossom also has the problem of hair that seems unwilling to be tamed. It is a dark, almost earth brown mop that resists combing and even when cut short it looks like it's going every which way. He is also thin, mainly because a childhood illness has made him unable to eat meat.

His wounded soul is reflected in his deep brown eyes, which is why he rarely looks anyone in the eye for long, fearing that they might see the real Blossom. He is one of those unfortunate boys who has struck the middle ground between masculine and feminine, between attractive and homely. In fact there is very little about him that makes him stand out.

Personality Description

Shy and quiet, Blossom is deeply ashamed of how far his family has fallen. He hates the Posada family with an undying passion, blaming them for the curse that has brought his family to ruin. He is slow to open up to people, especially those of more affluent Pureblood houses, not wanting to further expose the obvious the poverty his family has fallen into. After all, these were the peers who chose to leave him behind. Once won, however, his friendship and loyalty are undying, as is his hatred of those who betray his trust. He still hangs on to the prejudices of the Purebloods, seeing halfbreeds and mudbloods as inferior beings, for the most part because he has little exposure to them. Until he realizes that there is skill, power and astonishingly, PEOPLE under those epithets, he will treat them with disdain. He has respect for his most adults, although he has difficult reconciling that respect with the prejudices he's been taught.

History

The Rose family was once one of the more affluent and influential Pureblood families in the wizarding world. Closely related to the Blacks and the Longbottoms, they were famous for their herbalists and potions, their gardens drew visitors from all over the world.

That all came crashing to an end when the only daughter of the house eloped with the youngest son of the Posada family, on the eve of her wedding to the powerful Fudge clan.

Thinking it was a planned snub, the Fudges withdrew from a centuries old pact with the Roses. Furious with the Posada over the insult, the Roses went to war.

The War of the Roses, as it was called, saw the power of one family come into direct conflict with another, something that was devastating in its destructiveness. The end came when the errant daughter turned on her own house and, taking advantage of her father's trust, placed a powerful curse on the family.

From that day forward, the Rose family fortunes have spiraled downwards. Once famous gardens now lie barren and lifeless. Fortunes in gold stored at Gringotts suddenly vanished like leprechaun gold overnight.

Blossom is the last child of the line. His mother died giving birth to him and he was raised by a father who didn't quite know what to do with him in the face of the family's failed fortunes. An unidentified illness as a child left him weakened and bedridden for almost a year. Unable to travel to the exotic locations visited by their wealthier peers even if his family could have afforded it, Blossom was quickly left behind. He stopped getting invitations and was often left to his own devices. He took to reading and still reads voraciously. He puttered in the family gardens, while he recovered and the weather was warm enough for him to be permitted outside. He has the families famous green thumb and is quite proud of it, even if it is one of very few things he has to be proud of.

Artifacts that have been in the family for centuries have been sold off to put Blossom through school, in the possibly vain hope that he might be able to find some way to end the curse that has brought the house to its knees over the past five centuries. He feels the pressure on him and it weighs heavily upon small shoulders.
