Bermuda Triangle Apparition Hex (Pirate AU)

By the 1690s, it is well know that a strange quirk in the magical field around the Caribbean makes long-distance apparition extremely difficult. Although magical scholars have not been entirely able to explain the phenomenon of this Apparition Hex, it seems to vaguely correspond with distance: the farther you are trying to apparate, the more likely it is that you will reappear somewhere you didn't intend. There are even stories of unfortunate wixes only reaching their destination weeks later or never reappearing at all.
Many wixes have even sworn off short-distance apparition, which they claim to be more nauseating and disorienting in the Caribbean than it is elsewhere.
As a result, the magical community tends to mimic their Muggle neighbors and use ships to travel around the Caribbean instead.
