Barnabas Cuffe

From Absit Omen Lexicon

Barnabas Cuffe is the eccentric editor of the Daily Prophet, a wizard of great influence, and volatile mood. He’s overall a man who believes in the greater good, and is sly enough to have the helm of the largest newspaper in the country.

Character History 2013 - 2017

Cuffe's Daily Prophet soured on Edwin Glass's leadership at the most opportune time, even claiming in some articles to have seen the entire thing coming. The paper's editorial bent towards Solomon Carstairs came as a surprise to few, with Cuffe and Carstairs' friendly professional relationship fairly well known.

Regarding growing social and political movements like Magic Rights, the Werewolf Alliance, and Futurists, Cuffe steers the Daily Prophet into appearing objective and balanced. In the end, though, the Daily Prophet and Cuffe's success depends on maintaining the basic status quo.

In the past five years, Cuffe has begun to see the importance of making headway in the United States and has built up the existing New York news desk. He's seen more and more often shaking hands with agents of the Congress of American Witches and Wizards.

In his personal life, he continues to feud in a transparently unhealthy obsession with Genevieve "Queen G" García Gamp of the Witch Weekly. His marriage to the famous Agatha Pendragon seems secure enough.

Summary: Barnabas Cuffe is still the eccentric and tyrannical boss of the Daily Prophet, and continues to leverage in support of the Ministry of Magic so long as it suits the social and political stability to maintain his own comfort, power, and influence. He supported the ousting of Glass and Greyfriar, and backs (for now) Solomon Carstairs as Minister.
