Augustus retired from Level 5 in June 2010. He was known as 'Gus' or 'Gusty' by colleagues in the Ministry, depending on whether they were being polite, or impolite about his unfortunate flatulence.
Augustus suffers from a decline in his hearing, and has resorted to using an ear trumpet to hear those around him better. Eventually, with his increasing age and decreasing accuracy in his work, he decided to retire. Johann Storm filled his shoes in an acting capacity as no formal replacement was appointed.
He was Hogwarts classmates with Filius Pepper, and family friend of the Peppers, an unofficial uncle of sorts to Francis Pepper and Monty Pepper for his visits. Other classmates included the decorated Isambard Roth and housemate artificier Sabia Norling.
His daughter, Susannah Bellingham died of an illness in 2008.
