A secretive and sometimes surly smart-alec, Archie is the eldest Hughes child that stormed away from the Wizarding world after his parents divorce left him confused and cynical about love and marriage, and his place in the family. He took his young family (Wife Maureen and son Toby Hughes) to America, where he attended Laevenstrome's Fundunct of Sorcery, studying Wizarding history, Archeology and Magi-Anthropology. It wasn't until his wife revealed how his selfishness had left her feeling trapped and depressed that Archie fully understood his parents reasons for their divorce. While his marriage wasn't salvageable, his relationship with his family was. He made amends with his family when he returned to England in December of 2009.
Before his departure, he had been a fairly well known cursebreaker for Gringotts but grew to hate his job when he realized that it was all about loot and nothing about the cultures that owned it. When he returned to the Wizarding world, Archie chose not to return to his former job and instead got a job at the National Museum of Wizarding History. There he can use his knowledge of cursebreaking and muggle Anthropology to study ancient wizarding cultures and people rather than their treasures.
Currently
After his divorce, Archie has just recently moved back to England along with his children, son Toby Hughes and daughter Gwendolyn Hughes, and is starting his new job at the Wizarding Museum of History.

Children
Toby Hughes (Right) and Gwendolyn Hughes (Left) are Archie's two children with ex-wife Maureen Dempsey. Although he is not always the best at showing it, these two are Archie's life.
Toby and Archie are polar opposites. Whereas Archie is sarcastic, intelligent and secretive, Toby is naive, a bit dim and honest to a fault. While he doesn't do well at showing it, often coming across as overly critical, he does love Toby and wants nothing more than for him to succeed in life. Toby in turn respects and looks up to his father, and tries his best (often with embarrassing results) to live up to his fathers expectations.
Gwen is more like Archie in that she is quite bright and curious, though she has more confidence and is more outgoing than her father. Both he and Toby, as well as most of her extended family, tend to spoil her so she has gotten quite good at wrapping them around her little finger.
