Appearance
Having been a manual labourer for the majority of his working life, Alec is well built. He is bulky but not massive. Age is starting to show in his body, muscle mass having decreased since his younger years of handling dragons. He isn’t as fit as he used to be but he still endeavours to maintain as much bulk as he can in his new desk job. His height of 6 foot 2 combined with his bulk mean that Alec cuts a reasonably imposing figure.
Regularly remarked upon is the darkness that Alec exudes; dark hair, dark eyes, dark clothes and a dark sense of humour. He has seen a full life; a dangerous life. Scars across his arms, legs and torso tell tales of dealings with creatures. The most noticeable snaking from the left of his chin down his neck and chest is a constant reminder of his unsuccessful attempt to save the life of his friend and brother-in-law.
Alec speaks with a fairly deep baritone. His accent is could be described as mongrel thanks to a childhood in the UK but a career in his mother’s home country of Norway. He speaks both languages fluently.
Personality
Alec is rarely described as a nice person or a good guy. That is because he isn’t. Better words to describe him as are selfish, callous and uncaring. He is out for what he can get and doesn’t tend to care about who gets caught in the crossfire. He is a father of two boys that he rarely sees and the ex-husband of a wife he cheated on a few too many times.
Somehow Alec can be charming when he needs to be, a veritable gentleman when on the prowl. He likes women and drinking; especially together.
Despite the main exterior of being a bit of an unpleasant wizard, once someone does get close to him, he is damned loyal. He would do pretty much anything for his family and closest friends.
History
The fourth boy born to Claire and Jacob Carter, Alexander wasn’t anything special. The Carters wasn’t a girl. Alec was a disappointment at birth and he remained a disappointment through his childhood into his adult life. Three brothers before him excelled at school and when it was his turn, Alec found himself dumped in the Slytherin with no love for the academics outside of creature care.
Leon, Jaime and Samuel were mostly model students. Leon became head boy, Jaime and Sam were prefects. Alec juggled four different girlfriends; one from each house. Two years below him, the dreaded sister Miranda became the star student at everything but Defence Against the Dark Arts. Alec bagged an O in Care for Magical Creatures and scraped passes in the rest of the NEWTs. He couldn’t wait to get out of Hogwarts.
As soon as he left school, Alec got himself a one way Floo to Norway to begin his work with dragons. He got a job as a ranch hand and that was where he met Jonathon Elliot. The friendship was immediate and the pair grew, learning together until Elliot was introduced to Carter’s sister at a party. Alec immediately lost some of his best friend to the romance that never should have happened.
After their marriage, Elliot had managed to save up enough to buy his own ranch. Alec joined him in the venture and worked as a co-owner until Jonathon’s accident. with Jonathon gone, Miranda sold the ranch and forced her older brother to move on. Alec began work at the Ministry in Norway, handling dragon protection.
Throughout his time at the ministry, Alec dipped his hands into a lot of preverbial pies. He became the everything man, called upon to handle werewolf disputes and to use his experience with various beasts. He steadily worked his way up to becoming the deputy head for his department.
In 2000 Alec met Malin, the gorgeous blonde witch that stole his heart. In 2001 they married. In December 2010 they divorced. Malin, rather unfortunately found Alec in bed with one too many women and told him he’d blown every chance. She took him for everything he had, claiming their young sons (Fredrik and Jan) needed extra support to make up for an ‘absent father’. Despite it hurting, Alec knew she was right.
With the divorce, Alec decided he had very little keeping him in Norway. His sons knew the messy truth and his wife was making damned sure that they began to hate him. He elected to get away and move back to the UK.
His Job
Despite the train wreck that is Alexander’s personal life, he can be every bit the professional at work. He takes a hard line on the regulation of creatures, putting the public’s safety before anything else. Alec plans to implement current Norweigan policies, ensuring that the correct restrictions are in place to ensure everyone’s safety.
Having very strong opinions on issues surrounding werewolves, vampires and dementors may not make Alec a popular man, but he doesn’t believe he needs to be popular in order to do his job correctly.
Professional Experience
Throughout his entire career, Alec has worked with beasts. He has nearly two decades of experience working on a dragon and magical beasts ranch, handling hippogriffs amongst other creatures.
During his time at the Norweigan ministry, Alec started from the bottom and worked his way up. He started out as a consultant on magical beasts, working in both the office and in the field. After a couple of years of consultancy, he moved towards building and putting regulations into place regarding beast handling. He was propelled towards dealing with werewolves rather by accident when the beast head fell ill and Alec became the acting head. He was able to transfer his skills towards the regulation and control of werewolves. While unpopular with liberalists within the department, Alec’s hard line caused him to fall into favour with the Norwegian minister and his head of department.
For 3 years, Alec has worked as the Deputy Head of Department for the ministry and his own Department Head supports his move to the UK to progress his career.
