At first (and second, and third) glance, an intimidating man.

At 6’5, Arviragus towered over many of his acquaintances, and his heavy stare stopped even more in their tracks. But to those who knew him, he was well-liked for his fairness and sense of humor. Overall, he was fairly popular while he was in office, and remained as such long after.

By 1891, he married Cornelia Chant. They had three children: Cyrus, Sybill, and Althea.
