Bored.

If Lexi could pick one emotion, that's what it would be. Bored. She was sitting outside and just chilling out when she saw somebody walk towards the fence. The girl had curly reddish-brown hair, and she was really pale too. The girl waved to Lexi as she opened the gate. "Umm hi?" Lexi said. "Who are you?"

"Dessa," she replied. "Who are you?"
If the other girl thought it was weird to just walk up to someone out of the blue and ask their name, she didn't show it. In Dessa's experience, it could be one of the best ways to make friends. She supposed it might not be the best idea to talk to random people, but she'd been wandering up and down the same street for fifteen minutes, already bored to death with the coffee shop and, planning to re-examine the bookstore if it ever opened. Seeing the face of another kid was all it took to make her throw caution to the wind.

"I'm Alexandra," she said. She examined the other girl, Dessa, she called herself. Her hair was very frizzy and curly, falling to around her shoulders. Dessa's eyes were green as a cat's, similar to Lexi's own bright eyes. "But," she continued, "If you call me Alexandra I'll kick you very hard. Call me Lexi."

She paused to let the words sink in before saying, "Is Dessa really your name? It's very strange, but I like it."

Dessa grinned at the other girl, who seemed to be almost vibrating with energy. "Lexi it is. And yup, that's my name. Don't ask me, it was my Dad's decision." Dessa glanced up at the house that Lexi sat in front of.
"Do you live here?" Dessa asked. "Not to be creepy or anything," she added, grinning sheepishly.

"No, I'm sitting in some stranger's front yard. What do you think? Of course I live here." Lexi retorted. She smiled back at Dessa, "Where do you live. Not to be creepy or anything!" She added sarcastically.

"What? You never hang out in stranger's front yards. Sometimes they give you cookies, and that totally make up for the times when you get chased off with a pitchfork. Besides," she raised her eyebrows, "It's a good way of making friends. What do you think I'm doing right now, eh? I popped up in your front yard, and I haven't even been cur--stabbed yet. Seems like a good sign." Dessa caught herself before saying cursed. After all, you couldn't very well go around talking about cursing people to Muggles. It only served to confuse and agitate them. This was something that Dessa had learned very recently.
"I live around here. And yes, Lexi. That was completely creepy." Dessa grinned.

Lexi listened as Dessa went on about pitchforks and cookies, this girl really was awful strange. But when she started to say 'cursed' but deffered to 'stabbed' it caught Lexi's attention. "Were you about to say cursed before?" She asked Dessa, "Because I would never curse you. Isn't that against the law, I mean I've barely even used my wand. How could I curse you?" Lexi said confused.

Dessa froze. "Wand...you have a wand...." she muttered. She was overcome with excitement. Could this girl really be a witch, like her? She looked perfectly normal, albeit a little sunburned. Dessa's first instinct was to leap forward and hug Lexi, but she knew from experience that that kind of reaction didn't often go over well. Plus, she couldn't be entirely certain that this girl really WAS witch. For all she knew, it was some kind of game. Unsure how to react, Dessa hesitated. "Uh, yeah...I think it is illegal. Are you...are you going to Hogwarts?" she waited with bated breath, unsure of how Lexi would react, worried that she would be just a muggle playing a game, and decide that Dessa was too weird to talk to.

Her new friend hesitated when she pulled out her wand. But Lexi's face fell when the girl asked if she was going to Hogwarts. "I really hope so, but I don't know if I'll be allowed in. I'm.... different and they don't like my kind aparently. It's stupid but at least that wretched headmaster from last year is gone. Maybe this year they'll let people like me attend....."

Dessa gasped at the injustice. She hardly knew Lexi, but she was already angry that she looked upset. "They have to let you in! What are you, a dragon? What could be so dreadful as to keep a poor, innocent child such as yourself from obtaining a quality education? Where is the JUSTICE in this world?!" Dessa panted with the exertion of her little speech.

Lexi was slightly frigtened by the sudden outburst of the girl. She let Dessa finish and watched as she breathed heavily. "You done?" She asked, Dessa nodded. "And please, dear goodness I'm 11. No more long words. Want me to explain why they wouldn't? Because I really like you and I don't want to scare a new friend away..."

Dessa shrugged, "I'm 11 too you know. I just...read a lot." Dessa dropped down so that she was sitting next to Lexi, and looked her solemnly in the eye. "You can tell me. I'm pretty hard to get rid of."

"Ok then, here's the thing.... imawerewolf!" Lexi said really fast and looked up at Dessa for some kind of reaction. "I mean I'm still normal, mostly, as normal as someone like me gets. But once a month I just get furry and big and scary I think. I don't know, I'm pretty sure werewolves are scary. I mean, the one who gouged out my shoulder was. Oh! Want to see my scar!" Lexi asked, not leaving a single moment for Dessa to actually comprehend what she was telling her.

"Wow, that's nasty!" Dessa said automatically as Lexi pulled down the collar of her shirt, exposing a angry red gash that looked just barely healed. As Lexi's words registered in her head, they gave her momentary pause. It wasn't like she knew any werewolves, but she knew they were supposed to be scary and deadly. However, one look at Lexi dismissed her apprehensions. While the redheaded girl might seem a tad scary, Dessa didn't think that she was a killer. She was just a sarcastic, funny girl with a once monthly furry little problem.
Dessa grinned, "I've never known a werewolf before. Do you howl at the moon?" she asked jokingly.

"No, of course not that's wierd!" Lexi exclaimed. "What's really wierd is that I have these funny cravings for like, meat but raw meat! Before it would have been like totally gross but it actually tastes really good. I have no idea why." She smiled as Dessa and started laughing at how wierd her last statement had just been. "Yeah so I'm pretty much just me 94% of the time and then that thing 6% of the time. I'm actually thinking about naming my alter ego. Like in those American comics! My dad has tons of them from when he worked in the US. They're so cool!"
