[May 3] I Didn't Take No Shortcuts [OPEN] on April 10, 2009, 03:05:19 PM May 3 - 5PMOn this particularly dreary afternoon, Brodie decided that she'd experiment with different beauty products rather than go outside and risk having her hair frizz. In the common room, Brodie set up several different makeups, nail polishes and hair things, then studied them each intently. The young redhead considered herself blessed to have both beauty and brains, and took serious blocks of time tending to both sides of herself. She was devoting most of today to the “beauty” aspect. She looked at some of the nail polishes, deciding that her plain nails could use some sprucing. She didn't know what color to go with – something pinkish, but not hot pink of course, and certainly not red. And plain manicures were just too boring for words – Brodie was feeling a French manicure. Hopefully, she wouldn't recreate the Nail Disaster that had transpired just a few months ago. It had taken her forever to get the nail polish off after that horrendous experience. She wasn't the greatest at painting nails. So, that's why she found herself staring at the bottle, deciding whether the “magical assistance” several of the bottles offered were actually legitimate – because sometimes, “magical assistance” really meant “we use magic to destroy your artfully taken care of nails!” It was a complete rip-off, so Brodie knew to be very careful. She glanced at the potions included with the nail polish. She decided on one bottle of a pinky-cream color that claimed that it “won't get a drop on your skin – nails only!” Brodie glared at the bottle, hoping that the inanimate object understood that if it was lying, it would be in serious trouble. She cautiously opened the bottle, and at that exact moment, her cat leaped up from behind her, surprise-attacking her lap. Brodie jumped, dropping the bottle, which spilled all over her lap. The bottle hadn't lied – it didn't get anywhere on her skin – but it was now all over her robes, which had cost a pretty penny.“Oh, for the love of Salazar!” she groaned. It was the third day of Remembering Day, which she could not appreciate the entire mourning celebrations fully. She had recently been apart of the mural painting, along with the art exhibition in Hogsmeade. The young fourth year was getting more publicity in her work in a few days, rather than her first four years in the magical community. She was not entirely a fan to show off her own work, and tried to keep her own name from appearing on her own artwork. Yet, she managed to have fun with the celebrations. Meg had left the art exhibition to return back to her dorm room for a bit. The exhibit would continue for another two more hours, and she wanted to get her bag from her room to bring back with her. She was wearing a white tank top with a yellow cardigan, dark jeans, and light blue sandals on her feet. She left her brunette hair down. Since it was the day of the exhibition, she decided that it warranted her to get dressed up a bit differently than how she would normally dress. After a bit of walking, Meg entered the Ravenclaw Common Room with the intent of grabbing her bag and leaving. However, right after she entered the vast room, she heard a girl groan about something that happened. Now, it probably was none of her business on what happened. But, the girl did complain out loud, and thus that was sufficient for her to hear it. She looked over at the girl, who she immediately realized was her same age, and remembered that she was apart of that group of superficial girls from her year. She vaguely remembered the girl's name as Brodie. Thinking that it was only right for her to ask what happened, she began to walk over to where the girl sat. "What happened?" she asked her. Not only had her cat caused a catastrophic incident with the nail polish she had decided on, but she'd nearly torn one of the outfits at Neely's fashion show and she lost one of the earrings from her favorite pair. And there was nothing worse than losing only one of the earrings, because you still had the one earring – a constant reminder of your irresponsibility and evidence of your apparent short-term memory loss. Now, on top of all of that, Brodie had spilled this nail polish all over one of her newest cloaks. Really, it was the biggest disappointment and lack of luck out of all of the bad things that had happened to her recently. A girl wearing a yellow sweater – very springy, but so five minutes ago – came over and asked her what had happened. Wasn't it obvious? “My cat seems to have mistook me for a ball of yarn, and it caused a bit of nail polish spillage,” Brodie responded. She got up and took off her robe, revealing her very odd outfit. Brodie was never sure about what to wear when it was rainy outside during the springtime, particularly in the shoe department. She'd gone with a pair of black Jimmy Choo sandals, because she'd assumed she wouldn't go outside. Even if she had the option to, she'd remain indoors simply because of her footwear choice. Brodie hadn't been planning on taking off her cloak, so she'd worn an old one-shoulder tank top. It wasn't so bad, and it could be considered “retro,” but Brodie just felt like it was out of style. She sighed, wishing her luck hadn't diminished so much. Of course, she yearned to go back down to Hogsmeade, but it was her own decision to come back up to the castle. Thus, she was missing a rather small portion of the festivities. True, she may be unable to appreciate everything about Remembering Day, but the fact that she was in the Magical Community clearly meant something. Therefore, she should at least be apart of the celebrations, which she was. Meg was never one to mind the rain that much, thus why she dressed the way she did. It wasn't as if it was down pouring outside, and it was spring. Therefore, she chose her clothing based on that fact. Besides, she liked thunderstorms, and liked to watch them. Thus, she had nothing against being out in the rain. While the girl was talking to her, Meg eyed the girl's stained robe. Yes, it did appear to have been soiled by nail polish. She never did like make-up that much, never really wearing it, unless there was some occasion that warranted it. "Did you need help cleaning it off?" she questioned. In her mind, she thought that it would not hurt to help the girl. After all, the spillage happened right when she walked into the room. Even if she wanted to plainly ignore the situation, she really couldn’t. The price she paid for fashion was a high one. She looked at the girl before her. Clearly she didn't spend as much time prepping as Brodie did. Her outfit was seemingly thrown together, and she didn't have a trace of makeup on her face. Daring, to say the least. Brodie understood not wearing a lot of makeup – she preferred to stay as natural as possible on occasions that didn't require fancy makeup – but not wearing anything at all on your face? Well, Brodie just couldn't imagine it. The girl had some pretty features that could be so enhanced by just a bit of blush there and a touch of mascara. Her hair was rather boring, too. "Did you need help cleaning it off?" Brodie looked at her robe with distaste. “Oh yeah, sure, go ahead,” she replied, holding out the robe as if it were a rag. She didn't care all that much about the robe, because she could always purchase a new one. Money wasn't an issue for Brodie. She couldn't get this girl's drab look out of her head. She just had a feeling that she had to do something about it. Brodie was fantastic in situations such as this.“Hey – have you ever had a makeover?” Brodie asked calmly. It wasn't really a question, though – it was more of a demand. While the girl worked on making her decision, Brodie picked up her now empty bottle of nail polish, frowned, and put the cap back on just so that it wouldn't leak anymore. She then put it in a trash bin by her bed, which would be cleaned out while she was sleeping by whoever it was that did that sort of thing. Yes, it would normally be crowded on the afternoons. However, it was Remembering Day weekend, thus making the Ravenclaw Common Room less crowded. That was always a good thing, but at the same time, that meant that her friends would not necessarily be in the room. Indeed, she did not immediately recognize a soul in that room at the moment. Meg looked back over at the girl that she was talking to. Accepting the robe from the girl, she held it closer down to where the nail polish stained the cloth. Pulling out her wand, she said, "Aguamenti." A jet of water came out of her wand, and she quietly began to wash off the nail polish from the robe. When the other girl asked her a question, Meg looked up questionably. "I'm not a big fan of putting on make-up, but I know how to use it when I want to. I only have had one a few years back," she responded to the girl. She groaned when she saw the robe. Now it was really destroyed. “Are you sure you're a fourth year, Megan?! We learned cleaning spells like last year!” Brodie sighed dramatically, staring at her robe. She was at a loss for words. She'd been all willing to spend the money to get the nail polish removed or to get a new robe, but now this one was completely destroyed. What was she supposed to do with it? The velvet was going to be totally wrecked, and the satin... oh, the horror! This girl had to be deranged. There was no other explanation. And Brodie had been offering to give her a makeover! Well, that idea was certainly kaput, now that Megan had disrespected her clothes. Brodie tried to remember spells to dry, but couldn't think of any, and charms to reverse spells also escaped her mind. Besides that, why would someone get something covered in nail polish wet? You'd have to scrub for hours! A simple cleaning spell would have done the trick, but clearly Megan had it out for Brodie and her wardrobe. “Ugh, what do you expect me to do with this? Would YOU like it, I suppose? It's still better than your out-of-season cropped sweaters, even drenched and totally ruined!” Brodie whined. She threw the cloak down on her bed and glared holes through Megan's head. Clearly, she had no idea that this particular robe was not supposed to get wet, which would go against the use of the robe in the first place. "Sorry, but how exactly was I supposed to know that it couldn't get wet. If it can't get wet, then it's use is really limited," she responded in a calm manner. She thought for a few seconds about what Brodie told her about learning cleaning spells the year before. "I guess those escaped my mind," she responded in a low voice. If she remembered correctly, she had a bit of trouble when they learned those spells. If she even attempted them, she would probably cause the robe to catch on fire, or something. With a shake of her head, Meg sighed lightly. "It's only wet a little near the stain. I was trying to get it to stop drying. If it dried, then it would be even harder to get off," she stated to Brodie, trying to show that she knew what she was doing. Clearly, she was not showing it that well yet. Meg did not say anything as Brodie whined to her. Oh yes, there appeared to be an obsession with clothing right there. She knew that she had plenty of clothes with stains and paint all over them. Yet, she had nothing against wearing them. Clearly, her fellow fourth year did. She waited a bit after Brodie finished speaking before attempting to talk again. Oh the tension in the room at that moment! "Use Calefax to dry it then," she stated simply. That would've been her next spell to use. But, she figured that she would get attacked if she were to touch the robe again. Skip to next post
