[Aug 1st] A Comes Before E

The neighborhood was, in many respects, exactly what he'd expected - quiet, quaint and homely. It was hard to imagine someone like Wintergreen living anywhere else, he supposed.

Tapendra had arrived a bit late, mostly due to  taking a few very wrong turns. Thankfully, there was space to park in front of the house without blocking anyone (as far as he could tell, anyway). His car was a bit wide for the street, as usual, but it didn't look to be an issue - this area didn't scream "high traffic", especially mid-morning.

He hoped this was the right place - the GPS had led him here (and yelled at him for taking wrong turns, too) and it looked about right. Of course, the fact pulling up in front of it made his GPS start flickering oddly was a clue as well.

Hopping out of the car, he took a moment to adjust himself, slipping his phone into his pocket and adjusting the lay of his tie. Come to think of it, this was only the second time he'd met parents; the first time...had not been too pleasant. He doubted Wintergreen's parents were criminals, of course, but still. Tapendra was used to students. He could only hope Wintergreen's parents approved - or were oblivious to - his approach in the classroom.

He strode to the front door, unable to stop himself from looking around as he did so; even as he rang the doorbell, he found himself looking at the next house over. There was a feeling - like it should have been further away, and yet...

The door opened, and three cats hared out past Professor Trishna. 'Sorry,' came a deep voice, belonging to the man who appeared on the other side of the threshold, a tall fellow with close-cropped hair and a neatly trimmed moustache and beard. 'They seem disdainful of using the cat flap around the back. You must be Professor Trishna?' He extended a hand to shake. 'Perceval Wintergreen. Thanks so much for coming. Pax has spoken very highly of--'

'Hi Professor Trishna!' chirped Pax, appearing at his father's elbow with a bounce. 'How are you? How's Cyhirae? How was Egypt?'

Shaking his head a little, Perceval backed into the hall and gestured for the teacher to come in. 'Let the poor man in the house first, Pax,' he said gently, though he was smiling a little. 'About the house, Professor-- if you could avoid magic in the study; we've got most of the electrics through there. And I think we already mentioned that the back garden is fine, the neighbours can't see past the extended Disillusionment Charm. Oh, did you want a cup of tea or coffee before you and Pax get started?'

While his father was saying all this, Pax was standing to one side, trying not to be too intrusive a presence. And, due to the way he kept bouncing anxiously on his toes, failing.

"Oh, hello-" Tapendra said, a tad overwhelmed as cats trotted out and a  hand was thrust out for him to shake. He smiled at Mister Wintergreen nonetheless, his handshake quick and firm. "Tapendra Trishna," he said, returning the greeting. "Thank you for having me, sir."

His smile only widened at the appearance of Pac, and he couldn't contain a short laugh. "Hallo, Pax - oh, excuse me -" He paused as one of the cats decided to come back and rub on his leg as he attempted to enter the house. When the cat continued to be underfoot even when he tried to pointedly step over it, he gave in and gently picked the cat up, placing it to the side.

"Oh? Yes, certainly - I had to all but ban magic in my home, myself! I know how that goes," he told Percival, clearly still a little thrown off (and the cat was still relentlessly purring against his leg). "Tea would be lovely, if you'd be so kind," he said, with a bow of his head.

He ran a hand through his messy hair nervously, looking at Pax. "I suppose the backyard would be the best choice, then? And Egypt was lovely." His own much much darker tan was testament to the time he'd spent on the beach. "Cyhirae is mostly sleeping it off and revising for next term," he said, with a soft laugh. "How was your summer?"
