Physical Description:

Few would call him unattractive and few would call him stunning either. Perhaps more people would find him more attractive if he were taller, being only 5'4''. Lawrence is a thin man, mainly due to years of walking or riding on his family estates. His hair is medium length and a dark orange. It generally flows backwards. He has never had a beard but he does wear a moustache.

Lawrence's eyes have bright green eyes. His eye brows are black, a stark contrast to his ginger hair.

Lawrence dislikes modern muggle fashion, and he rarely wears Wizard clothes either.  He dresses everyday in a suit.  He prefers double breasted jackets but he does have single breasted in his wardrobe. The jacket usually comes of during the day, hung over the back of a chair for example, to reveal a waistcoat. His shoes are the same colour as his jacket, waistcoat and trousers, which is usually brown. His sleeves are usually rolled up while working.

When he was younger he wore a simple tie. But now he is rarely seen without a bow-tie. He likes to seem clean. His chosen profession makes this rather difficult but he knows quite a few spells that can clean a gentleman up in seconds.

Personality Description: Lawrence is a Baronet. Therefor he is not a member of the nobility but has the hereditary right to be called Sir. This title only applies in the muggle world, where it has lost most of it's importance in the last century, and brings no powers. However it does mean he was brought up to understand manners and etiquette. He finds all this incredibly tedious and he takes little notice of the heirs and graces of the social scene. In fact very few people actually know he is a Baronet. However there were a few upsides to being brought up by a fabulously wealthy member of the Upper Class. The family has vast estates, mainly situated in and around Cornwall, and a huge country house. However being inside has never interested Lawrence. He spent his entire childhood playing outdoors. Forests were his favourite, he also loved to swim in the nearby lake and play with the horses. His favourite game as a child was chasing peacocks.

He also attended many dances and balls at manor houses in the Duchy. Lawrence loves to dance and socialise. Meeting new people is one of his favourite activities, only bested by a dance. Lawrence is a typical Hufflepuff. He is a very hard working individual. Once he starts a job he sees it through to the end. Lawrence makes new friends very easily. He is generally considered likeable and kind. He has strong morales and his friends mean allot to him. However he usually sees things as very black or white, they are either right or wrong, and he believes that you shouldn't do the crime if you aren't willing to do the crime.

Lawrence can be vain. Not because he wants people to find him good looking. The main reason is he believes people take you more seriously when you are well dressed and look good. Also his father always made sure he was dressed appropriately. He is very professional and takes his job very seriously. When working with others he expects them to be hard-working and professional. However when he isn't working he enjoys a joke and a laugh as much as anyone.

When first meeting someone is both polite and old fashioned. The exact wording depends on who he is meeting. For example if he had met someone at a Manor House Ball he would introduce himself as ''Sir Lawrence Anson...'' then the necessary pleasantries. If he was meeting someone in the Wizarding world it would be ''Mr. Lawrence Anson...'' as he sees no reason in people outside of society knowing he's a baronet or wealthy. He dislikes it so much as he never knows if people like him for his money or for who he is.

With both his parents dead, his mother during the birth of her second child, and his father from cancer, his young sister is his only family. She means everything to him and there is nothing he wouldn't do for her. He is also her legal guardian. She is a muggle, 15 years old, who currently lives on the family estate. She can be a handful at times and in the last year she has had a string of boyfriends that he disapproves of. He fears that she may end up pregnant.

Lawrence is intelligent, and passed all his O.W.L.S and N.E.W.T.S with Es or Os. However he is not naturally intelligent in the way that many Ravenclaws are. He was more than capable of matching the Ravenclaw's when he was at school. But he generally had to work harder at it than they did. Lawrence does enjoy conversations about almost anything: politics, herbology, books etc.

Except when dancing, the reason for this has never been discovered, he is clumsy. He often spills over ink, knocks over drinks and he usually walks into a door once or twice a month.

He dislikes confrontation and prefers to settle things with discussions. He has had a tragic family life. He has not confronted the death of his parents, simply repressing it, and he never talks about it- even with his sister.

He takes responsibility very seriously. His sister therefor often thinks he is too strict. But he just wants the best for her.

History: Lawrence was born on St,Martins Island, Cornwall. He was 2 weeks early and his father, Sir Robert Anson, nnd his mother, Lady Elizabeth Anson, took a day trip to the Isles of Scilly. As soon as the local hospital said their son, born with a large tuft of red hair, was ok they took him back to Anson Hall. A beautiful nursery had been prepared for him and he enjoyed a happy baby-hood. His father began to teach him how to fish and ride. He enjoyed both but ridding was incredible. He enjoyed the companionship of the animal, he could mix with his father and was able to see the families 900 Acres. He fell of the third time but he was totally fine. He decided to get straight back on.

He went to his first dance when his father and mother were invited to the annual dance of a local Barron. Everyone commented on how adorable he was and he loved the colours, the dances and the music was amazing. Every time he heard his mum or dad mention the ball he begged them to let him come along. Usually they let him, unless it was an occasion only for adults. When he was around 5 the first magical events started to occur. They were small things generally. The first time it happened is one of his most distinct memories. He had been in the forest when it began to rain heavily. He didn't disliked the rain, he actually enjoyed it, butt by the time he got to the house he was covered in mud. He didn't want to mess up the hall and was worried what the house keeper would say. Then, as he was worrying, the mud vanished and his clothes were clean.

He was able to hide it from his parents for a few years until he was 8. His mother had made him a cup-of-tea but by the time he got to the table it was cold. She offered to make him another one but when he picked it up to give it to her it started to bubble. Within a few seconds it was pipping hot. Small things like this began to happen with more frequency. They became rather scared as it kept happening. They couldn't do anything of course. Going to the authorities for help would get the entire family locked up in home for the mad.

However it all changed on his 11th birthday. There was a huge party and he had a great time. Then, at around 10:30 pm,, there was a knock at the door. This was rather strange. Firstly because the family had few unannounced visitors, secondly because he would either of had to trek through at least 20 acres of forest or gotten past the locked, 20 foot high, gates. Lawrence was still awake, still to excited to go to sleep, and he ran out of his room to see who was there. As the door was opened there was a strange man in even stranger clothes. He asked if Lawrence Anson was at home. The young boy walked down the stairs. They went into the drawing room and began to talk. It turned out he was a Wizard!

He went to Diagon Alley with his parents. They were all like lost children. He found it amazing, especially when he got his wand. However Diagon Alley was nothing compared to Hogwarts. He had been to London many times in his young life and had often been in King's Cross. He had to run between 9 and 10. It took him a while but eventually he did and there was a train. Once he arrived at Hogwarts he was sorted into Hufflepuff.

He mixed well with the other Hufflepuff's. He made friends without any effort and they all seemed lovely. The food was great too. He was a good student. He was able to keep up with the brightest students in the year, usually Ravenclaws, but he really had to work at it. Spending hours reading a book that they would only need to glance over to get the same marks. In the first years his favourite lesson was Defence Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic, Charms, Transfiguration, Herbology well basically everything. It was all so amazing! The only lesson he didn't like was potions. He was not very good with the timing and often put too little or too much of an ingredient (he lost his eye brows three times in the first two years.

When he was 15 his mother died giving birth. The pain of it was incredible. He has never really come to terms with it and he misses her dearly today. The child that was born, Lydia, was ok. The burial of his mother was one of the worst moments of his life, only matched by that of his father 13 years latter.

Care of Magical Creatures became his favourite lesson as soon as he could choose the subject. He absolutely loved the class and was amazed at the new animals. He passed his O.W.LS. With Os in all but two subjects (an A in Potions and an E in Charms). He did just as well in his NEWTS. Once he left Hogwarts he worked for the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. It was a good job, but it didn't satisfy him. He worked there for two years when he decided to go Nigeria. He wanted to prove the existence of the Bald Dragonbird; a bird that was covered in feathers of every colour, with a bald spot on it's head, that had the ability to breath fire. He spent aalmost three years in Nigeria. Most of that was spent deep in a rainforest that was unplottable due to the many magical creatures inside.

He did take a month break where he went to Ethiopia. It was there that he found a Nundu. He knew there was nothing he could do and he went straight to the Ethiopian Ministry. They mobilised all their specialist Nundu catchers, and some aurors, who went to subdue the creature. Lawrence went to and they saw the Nundu attack a muggle village. The wizards, numbering around 120, sprung into action shooting stunning curses from every direction. The beast screened as it fell to the floor, killing 11 Wizards with it's gigantic weight.

He was almost killed twice on his return to Nigeria, having to kill four strange animals to survive, but he did eventually find a colony of the Bald Dragonbird. There were four of them, one baby. and he returned to the spot for two weeks. He had a large leather bound book that he filled, well over 600 pages, on their daily routines.  One of them hatched a single egg on the 14th day while he watched. He returned the next day to find  four carcasses. Their bones had been stripped clean and he was devastated. He assumed some predator had made easy meals out of them. He also noticed scorch marks around the colony where they had tried to defend themselves. However he discovered a single egg, perfectly round, and decided to look after it. He had already observed one baby of the species, and it was totally unable to do anything for itself, he was sure it would of died if he left it there.

On his return to England the egg hatched. He took up residence on a cottage on his father's estate and began to look after the hatchling. He experimented with allot of food but lamb meat seemed to be it's favourite. He also published his first book, The Dragon Birds Last Song which became a best seller. However he was not able to celebrate as he found out his father had cancer. His father was an incredibly strong man and he was not afraid. Lawrence wanted to heal his father, or at least try, but Lawrence was never skilled with healing. He was able to heal a broken bone or two but little more, and he didn't lie to his father- he told him it could go badly wrong and that he may actually shorten his life span.

However the cancer progressed very quickly and after his sons 28th birthday, which was not celebrated, his father died. It was terrible loosing another parent. But he was able to cope better this time as he had his sister to look after, he was now her legal guardian. He was offered a job in Australia but decided he had to stay in England. He had responsibilities now: his sister, the management of his estates and Thaddeus (the Bald Dragonbird.)

For two years he worked as a resident Magizoologist with the same department he started his career at. But it was not handson enough for Lawrence and when he found that the COMC position was open at Hogwarts he decided to apply. He had never thought about teaching, but now that he did it felt right. He liked the idea of working with animals and hopefully inspiring the next generation of Magizoologist. He hopes to stay at least until his sister is settled with her own life.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them: As a Professor his main job is to teach his students about his chosen subject. He feels very strongly about the Care of Animals, magical or otherwise. He has got other responsibilities: he has to be a career guide, offer advice and be there if he is needed. He is a new teacher and he is not totally sure of himself yet.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field: He is a published author, former ministry Magizoologist, discovery of a new species and a celebrated authority on African Magical Species and Magical Birds (though he has an expert knowledge of many animals these are his speciality)

Writing Sample: My Most Beloved Sister,

Things are incredible at Hogwarts, I hope one day you will have the pleasure of visiting, Thaddeus has grown much since you last saw him. His growth spurts are incredible. However I have something more pressing to write to you about. Ms.Edwin has told me that your new boyfriend, William I believe, was seen leaving your bed room at night. I have no doubt that you will not have behaved in an un-ladylike way but I do worry about you. You should focus on your studies, you have plenty of time when they are completed to find a nice gentleman and settle down.

Lawrence

A deep and exasperated sigh escaped from between Lawrence's thin lips. He rubbed his temple and stood as he placed his letter in an envelope and sealed it. He opened the window in his office to get some fresh air. It was a beautiful nigh, the moon was full and it's light illuminated the great lake below. A slight breeze rustled the grass below. It was a relaxing scene. However he was unable to stay and enjoy the view as he had paperwork to do. He picked up a quill and began to scratch away. His handwriting was impeccable due to years of practise.

A knock at the wooden door was a surprise as he wasn't expecting anyone. ''Please enter.'' The door opened and a last year student, that he had only seen in the great hall, entered. ''Yes, Miss...''

''Miss Grey, Sir. I was hoping you could sign my copy of your book?''

Lawrence was taken abaxk. He didn't like the idea of signing a book. ''Errm unfortunately I can't really do that, I feel it may show some form of favouritism. But I could show you something that may interest you, if you have read the book?''

''Mmmm, ok Professor.''

Lawrence climbed the staircase in his office and entered the room above. From outisde all the could be heard was a whistle. When he emerged there was a creature, about 50% larger than a Grey Parrot, was standing on his outstretched arm, making a clicking noise with it's beak. The animal was beautiful to behold. Each feather was a different colour, it seemed like a living rainbow, however a small spot on his forehead was bald. It's eyes were bright, showing it's large intelligence. Lawrence had always believed they were at least as intelligent as a dolphin or whale.

''This Miss. Grey is Th...'' he was cut of before he could finish his statement.

''Thaddeus,'' she said in an excited squeak, ''I recognise him from the photos in the book.''

Excited to meet a new person a small spark came from his mouth. ''Would you like to hold him, I assure he is perfectly safe.''

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Lawrence is a polite, inteligent, hardworking and caring man. Incredibly professional he is a different person when off work. He enjoys joking and card games. When people first meet him he is usually very formal, due to his ubrining, but he makes friends very quickly.
