[Aug 5] Glory Makes It All Worth It? (Auberon)

on December 06, 2011, 04:26:16 PM

Early morning - On the shore of the lake near the Durmstrang ship.

There were days when being a favored spy of the headmaster was a boon, and then there were days when that fact made her life hell. At this moment Katya was uncertain which category today fell into.

Fswh!

Katya rolled out of the way of a stunning spell and whipped out her wand and cast the disarming spell at her attacker, "Expelliarmus!" She quickly got to her feet and cast a shielding spell to block any retaliatory spells. Tutoring with the headmaster was always... interesting. And bruise filled. So far Katya had only been on the defensive, but unlike in previous sessions she was actually managing to retaliate. Not that she had ever managed to hit her current opponent.

Katya was, to be perfectly honest, merely average at dueling. Her spellwork was good, her observation skills were excellent, but she had neither the reflexes nor the stamina to make use of them. Originally, she had been chosen to come because of her spy skills and potion making ability, not because she was a prime choice for the Durmstrang champion. But when she had indicated to the Headmaster that she had wanted to compete she had been "invited" for special training to bring her dueling skills up to snuff. Which was why she was now weaving and dodging spells and objects like in a muggle game of dodge ball.

Katya bit back a curse of pain as she awkwardly landed on her knee as she dodged a thrown rock that went through her spellshield. She forced herself up, ignoring the pain in her right knee as she straightened, her face a tightly controlled look of calm. It would not do her any good to show weakness to the headmaster right now. She knew he would take full advantage of it.

Auberon stood opposite her, his wand drawn. He was surrounded, as was habit, but articles of the environment. As he often tried to teach the students, one should always take in mind their surroundings, and be able to quickly use them against their foes. Spacial awareness was as key to dueling as good spellwork was - the greatest user of curses could be bested by a man who knew how to dodge.

For this reason he was surrounded by the round, heavy stones that lay on the lake shore. They hovered in the air about him, turning in orbits around his body - and with a casual wave of his wand, another flung towards the girl. He was purposely missing, of course - he would never hit a young lady with a stone - but his aim was still good enough to force her to dodge it in some manner.

"Faster, Alkaev!" he said simply, deflecting her spell with his own shield and sending another stone her way. "If you seek the Championship this should be easy for you. Again!" This time he sent two stones flying at her - one aimed for her face and the other her stomach. "One is not born with reflexes - they are trained! So learn!"

Katya akwardly danced to the side to dodge the thrown stones. Gathering her self she warily took stock of her situation. At this point she wouldn't have much luck getting to the headmaster without removing his guards and doing it quickly so he couldn't replace them. A multiple target spell would be best. She pointed her wand at Eisenberg and jabbed it forward, "Incendia Tempestas!" Several fireballs burst from her wand, impacting some of the Headmaster's stone shields.

"Glacio Undium!" Not waiting for Eisenberg's responce, she flung her arm in the headmaster's direction with her wand pointing at the headmaster's heart. Ice spikes rapidly began to immerge  from the ground in a cone like formation heading towards the headmaster, freezing anything in it's path with a thick coating of ice. Immediatly Katya began to cast her next spell, "Glaci0 Tumbium!" A thick wall of ice rose behind the Headmaster and began curling around him to prevent him from moving out of the way.
