MARRIAGE AND A POLITICAL STATEMENT?
by THELMA AGNES DIDDLE
JUNE 22, 2009

It appears that over the weekend, Ministry employees Dreogan Eleor, of Muggle Affairs (a subject worthy of another article entirely), a subdivision of Magical Cooperation and Akiva Katz, of the Ministry Library, we married.  Before I begin; belated congratulations to the happy couple.

We would have been much more obliging in the timing of our congratulations if someone from the Prophet was directly informed of this union.  However, since we were woefully left out of the union, it was through the dogged efforts (and relatively small community) that we were able to ascertain the details of the event.

The couple was married under a tent, which was strange, as the day was perfectly clear, however, noting how peculiar at least one of the parties is, should come to no surprise.  All male guests were instructed to wear little, circle hats during the ceremony.  A guest, who shall remain nameless, noted this was a religious tradition.  There was a small reception after with a band.  It has been said that the groom is not much of a dancer.  The statement made at the wedding, however, had nothing to do with anyone’s dancing ability.

Other details unearthed by our steadfast reporting: It appears the wedding was small and intimate (not so small that we could not figure it out!), with friends and family present.  Now, perhaps most shocking to any of our readers was the presence of both magical and muggle beings in the same space.  Anyone who is familiar with the groom might not be surprised at this fact, and would know his platform on muggles and wizard relationships.

The brand new subdivision of Magical Cooperation is dedicated to reintroducing both worlds to one another.  Anyone who has studied History of Magic with Professor Binns knows, however, what happened last time muggles were made aware of the presence of witches and wizards in the world.  The Statute of Secrecy has a long and sordid history, and it appears questioning it now is all the rage!  This is one fad, dear readers, I will not support.

This controversial choice did not seem to upset the bride either.  As a muggleborn, the newlywed Mrs. Eleor has never made a statement about her views, but it is certainly telling that she is married to one of the largest proponents of integrating the two worlds,  and was one of the first victims during a wave of muggle and muggleborn violence.  It is, of course, understandable to desire one’s family to attend a celebration, but beyond that?  Does the Statute of Secrecy warrant no respect anymore?

You might disagree with it, but a wedding is not the place to air your political laundry!
