Personality Description:
Confident;; Being the youngest child, Beth has always had to prove that she’s not the “baby” of the family. She’s not the type who’s afraid to speak up and express her opinion on a subject, especially one that she’s passionate about. This willingness to put forward her opinions, sometimes in a forceful manner, sometimes makes Beth come across as quite cocky; however, this is sometimes made worse by her somewhat argumentative nature, which is often expressed if a person expresses an opinion that is vastly different to her own on some particularly controversial subjects. For the most part, during arguments Beth tends to use sarcasm rather than any physical intimidation.
Bossy;; For as long as she’s played quidditch competitively, Beth has always been prone to taking part in back-seat captaining. She has always been quite a bossy person and sometimes tended to take over a leadership role during group-work tasks at school. For the most part, Beth likes to think that she knows what’s best and tries to put forward her opinions, her argumentative nature probably doesn’t help in this respect as it can often make her come across as being pushy as well as bossy.
Thrill Seeking;; Being a quidditch player, Beth isn’t exactly short on a good adrenaline rush, in fact, the girl lives for it. She’s more than happy to take risks and attempt some risky manoeuvres if she’s asked to. Her mother often describes her as reckless, and impulsive, saying that she doesn’t think things through enough before she does them, making big decisions before she should and rushing into things that require more thought than the twenty year old gives them.
Loyal;; Family and friends are probably some of the most important things to Beth, after quidditch of course. Despite being the youngest in her family, Beth is unlikely to take anyone messing with her siblings lightly, she’s very much the type to bear a grudge and the fastest way to get Beth to dislike someone is by them messing with her close friends or family. For the most part, Beth’s trust is very hard to gain but it’s very easy to lose, and will take even more work to win back if it’s lost.
Ambitious;; Ambitious is probably one of the first words that Beth’s mother will use to describe her youngest daughter. Beth always sets herself goals and has very high standards that she expects herself to achieve. She is very much aware of her limits as far as what she deems to be “her best” and likes to think that she can achieve this every time she attempts something, in this respect, she is very much a perfectionist and can really get annoyed if she does not reach her own very high standards.
History:
The Kaspar family are relatively small and close knit family with a shared passion and interest in quidditch. Father, David, a former keeper for Puddlemere United and now retired coach, met, Ingrid, former seeker for the Holyhead Harpies in 1980, when the two of them had just left school, they met through mutual friends and after a whirlwind romance, they married after just two years. Their first daughter, Caroline, now 25 was born soon after, followed shortly by 22 year old Oliver and finally 20 year old Elizabeth. Although the family do share a love for quidditch, only the youngest of the three children actually plays the game for a living. The family live comfortably with enough money to easily cover the basics needed for life with a little bit more, though the family would not be classed as rich by any stretch of the imagination. With both parents now retired and all three children having flown the nest, David and Ingrid are currently spending a few months visiting friends in France, and plan to travel to Australia shortly afterwards, the pair have been saving up for this trip for a number of years and now their youngest has recently moved out of the house, they have finally found the perfect opportunity.
For the most part, Elizabeth had a normal home life; she grew up knowing about magic and watching her older siblings swan off to Hogwarts when they were old enough. Like her siblings, Beth was homeschooled by her mother and father on alternate days, unless they were both working, then the homeschooling was usually taken by David’s father, Iris. Beth generally disliked staying indoors to do school work and would often run away to climb trees in the back garden if her parents didn’t keep a close eye on her. She couldn’t wait to go to Hogwarts; magic was far more interesting than boring maths and English after all. Despite being raised in a completely wizarding household with two half blood parents, Beth has never been completely disconnected from the muggle world. Maternal grandmother Frances, a muggle born witch, has always worked to keep her grandchildren well aware of the world in which she grew up with, taking both Elizabeth and Caroline to muggle ballet classes and Oliver to muggle football classes, from the ages of three to the start of Hogwarts, though Elizabeth only kept up ballet until the age of eight, quitting shortly after Frances passed away. In late 1997, the second wizarding war began. Due to their own blood status, the Kaspars were largely unaffected, but generally tried to keep themselves to themselves during this time. This could have been very different if Ingrid’s mother Frances, had been alive during this time. Due to her age, Elizabeth remembers very little of what went on during that time, and has never really wanted to think much about it as she got older.
Upon starting Hogwarts at the age of eleven, Elizabeth was sorted into Gryffindor house, the same house as her father before her. Despite initially being very nervous and clinging to older siblings for the first few months of her first year, for the most part, Elizabeth settled into Hogwarts life well, she made friends and also annoyed some to the point of them disliking her, or her disliking them, all thanks to her siblings introducing her to their own friends’ younger siblings. Although not gaining more than slightly above average marks in the academic side of things, Beth generally tried hard in classes, though her thoughts were often preoccupied by thoughts of quidditch, rather than her school work. Despite her thoughts often being somewhere else, Elizabeth left school with above average NEWT results in Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Potions and Astronomy, as well as her first boyfriend (who she broke up with a month after leaving school) and a few close friends who she is still in close contact with.
Quidditch has always been a major part of Beth’s life and attending school made no difference to her passion for the subject. She first tried out for Gryffindor’s quidditch team in her first year but was unsuccessful, though Beth does not put this down to lack of skill, but instead falling off her broom due to nerves. Beth didn’t actually make the team until her second year, but then she was only on the reserves team, not making first string until her third year. It was clear as soon as she got on the team that she had a real passion for the sport, making suggestions for plays and manoeuvres at every opportunity that she got. Young Elizabeth has always been prone to a little backseat captaining; she just can’t help herself at times. In her seventh and final year at Hogwarts, Beth was made Gryffindor’s quidditch captain. Beth was a formidable captain who worked her team hard in order to get the best out of them, or at least try and get the best out of them, though her team did describe her as being very bossy during this year, though she did seem to be very organised when it came to planning plays.
After leaving Hogwarts, Beth quickly began to crave independence, and got the first job she could get, waitressing at a restaurant in Diagon Alley while she tried out for a variety of different quidditch teams. Her first success came from the Chudley Cannons, who took her on as a second string chaser. For two months, Beth worked as a waitress alongside her job on the second string, until she got promoted to first string chaser. She’s held that position for nearly a year and a half now, and hopes to work her way up the team and eventually become captain or play for England in the Quidditch world cup, whichever comes first in her mind. Thanks to her current job, six months ago, Beth moved out of her parents’ home into her very first flat, a small one bed roomed flat in Diagon Alley.
Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
"My job is pretty self explanatory if you think about it, I’m one of the chasers for the Chudley Cannons. Basically I catch and throw a quaffle while on a broom, that’s about it really. I mean, obviously there’s other things I have to do, like practices and even promoting the team at times, but for the most part, it’s just about the quidditch game, that’s why I signed up anyway."
Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
"Well, I come from a family of quidditch players, well, my parents play, so it’s in my blood. I played quidditch all the way through school, well since second year, I made first string in third year and then was captain in my final year, so I do like to think that I have enough training to warrant my current position at the canons. I’ve been playing for them for nearly two years now, I was second string for two months and then I was made first string, I was so happy, just trying to work towards playing for England now."
Writing Sample:
After the first flying lesson of the year, Daphne had been more eager than ever to improve on her flying ready for the next round of quidditch tryouts, she was desperate to try and make the team and she wanted to be ready... She wasn't quite sure what position she wanted to play yet though, maybe a chaser or a keeper? Her catching skills were probably her strongest, she was lacking in the upper body strength to be a beater and the accurate swiftness to be a seeker, so either keeping or chasing seemed to be the most obvious position for the first year to play. It had been a few weeks since Daphne had last had chance to fly, so she slipped on her gloves and made her way down to the pitch, collecting one of the school brooms and a practice quaffle on the way.
The pitch seemed quiet, there was no-one around, probably because it was cold and still relatively early in the morning, most people didn't want to venture out until at least midday, and it was only half ten. As Daphne kicked off from the ground, she was happy, her flying skills had definitely improved since she started practicing, she just hoped she'd be good enough to get on the team next time round. As she mused, Daphne threw the quaffle up and down, trying to catch it. It was easy enough but it was no where near what it was going to be like in tryouts or even in an actual match.
The quaffle dropped back down to the ground, and as the first year flew down to get it shakily, she sighed "I wish someone was around, maybe they'd help me practice." she thought to herself as she approached the ground.
Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Elizabeth "Beth" Kaspar, a twenty year old chaser for the Chudley Cannons. Quidditch runs in this girl's blood, with a father who played for Puddlemere United and a mother who played for the Holyhead Harpies, it comes as no surprise that at least one of their children followed in their footsteps. Driven and ambitious, this former Gryffindor quidditch captain has her sights set on eventually holding the captain's position at the Chudley Cannons and eventually representing her country at the Quidditch World Cup
