Wand: 1o inches exactly, made of Almond wood with a Unicorn Tail Hair core. The wand is very thin and bendy, to a point that it is difficult to snap in two (a nasty third-year Slytherin discovered this when, upon trying to break Sebastian's wand, the implement sprung back into position, firmly whacking him across the bridge of the nose and leaving a narrow mark which lasted for approximately 3 years). The handle of the wand is substantially thicker than the shaft, creating a black bulb-like shape which fits neatly into the palm of Sebastian's left hand.
Physical Description: Sebastian stands just over 6 foot tall, and is what many would describe as 'lean', despite his quite astonishing talent for polishing off a three course meal and still having room for seconds. His hair is a deep black, though it has recently begun to show hints of grey, in particular around his temples. These patches are something which he half-jokingly blames on the current second years. Though cut neatly around his neckline and ears, his hair does come to an unusual mop on the top of his head, which combined with his grey eyes means that always looks like he's just gotten out of bed. He is also left-handed.
While working, Sebastian is ALWAYS dressed in a suit usually made of tweed, and on special occasions he is known to add a waistcoat to his ensemble. As for the colour, this varies from day to day, though it is typically a earthy colour such as green or brown. However, his tie is always the same one: three different shades of brown stripes. Outside of work, while relaxing in his office with a spell book in one hand and a whiskey or two in the other, Sebastian typically wears some kind of short-sleeved buttoned shirt, with a jumper pulled over should it be nippy.
Sebastian also wears a pair of thin-framed rounded glasses, which are styled so that they unintentionally destroy any sense of ‘cool teacher’ he may have. Originally solely for reading as a child, Sebastian would often forget to remove them after he was done, or simply keep reading for a prolonged time, resulting in them becoming a permanent fixture of his face. When concentrating, he will often remove his glasses and clean them with his tie, gazing at them intently while he continues any conversation he might still be holding. He also carries a silver pocket, engraved with his family crest. It belonged to his uncle, and Sebastian keeps it meticulously polished and wound.
Personality Description: Upon first impression, Sebastian seems old fashioned. He is often polite, greeting everyone with a handshake and an civil nod with only the faintest trace of a smile. He remains silent, letting others say their piece before adding his own opinion, and prefers to stand when in company rather than to sit (though he will not refuse a chair if he feels doing so would be rude). Those who get to know him, however, come to realise that he was raised by archaic parents and trust into their equally antiquated social circle at a young age.
Once past the initial introduction, many find Sebastian to be a gentle soul. He struggles with curses as well as defensive magic, which led him to fail his Defence Against the Dark Arts. He loves nothing more than to settle down with a book and a good whiskey; having been raised in Stratford-Upon-Avon, he has a great love for the Bard of Avon, and his office desk is adorned with a copy of Shakespeare’s collected work, bookmarked at his favourite play - the ‘Tempest’.
Should he not like someone, however, Sebastian is perfectly capable of holding a grudge for an indefinite amount of time, thanks to his eidetic memory. He is not a person to be spiteful, and prefers to held his tongue around people who annoy him rather than argue with them. In particular, due to a number of bad experiences with Slytherins while at school, Sebastian often takes an instant dislike to those in Salazar‘s house, meaning that he is nicely surprised when he encounters a nice one.
Ultimately, however, Sebastian is a professional. He keeps business and pleasure separate, and all students, regardless of whether he likes them or not, are treated equally in his classroom; but like all teachers, those who want to learn will always take priority over those who do not. The same cannot be said for his teaching colleagues, in particular those who he attended school with.
History: Sebastian Cadmon was born to Eric Cadmon and Sophia Cadmon in the summer of 1966. Raised in a large house on the outskirts of Stratford-Upon-Avon, Sebastian’s parents were socialites in a small but well-to-do social circle. Because of this, Sebastian’s childhood was spent predominantly in the care of an American nanny, Miss. Felicia Jacobs, who serves as Sebastian’s only real friend. On occasion, his parents would trot him out during one of their parties, Miss. Jacobs having been in charge of teaching him the proper etiquette for these events, and introduce him to a few of their friends before sending him away again.
From a young age, Miss. Jacobs would take Sebastian to the recently-established Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford. One of the reasons why his nanny had come to England was her love of the Bard, and this was something she was keen to share with the isolated Sebastian. The boy loved seeing the actors on stage, and Miss. Jacobs found it near-impossible to get him to sleep after a show. As he grew older, he took to calling his nanny by her first name; their bond was so important to the lonely youngster that Felicia couldn’t help but let the formalities slide.
Then, in May 1977, Sebastian awoke to a letter left on his bedside table. The address was written in fine calligraphy and the envelope made of some coarse, slightly brown material. Intrigued, Sebastian broke the wax seal and began to read. His eyes widened as he did so, and a small grin spread across his face. It was at that point that Miss. Jacobs arrived, slightly confused by just what was making the boy so such rare joy. Thrusting the letter beneath her name, Sebastian knelt on the bed next to her as though it were Christmas while she read the letter a half dozen times. Her face went through a number of expressions, from confusion to disbelief and finally to happiness. Sebastian hadn’t been making it up… He was a wizard.
The plan was set in motion: Miss Jacobs would say that she had found a boarding school in the north of England, and that she had completed all the necessary paperwork to secure Sebastian a place. His parents, who were just happy that it was done so they could continue their social life, were all too happy to believe this. With the Felicia‘s help, Sebastian gathered his school supplies and, on the 1st September, boarded the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9 ¾, bound for his new school.
Sorted into Ravenclaw upon arrival, Sebastian quickly found a talent for Charms, Potions, and, when he was old enough to take the classes, Divination and Muggle Studies. However, he was notably less skilled at Defence Against the Dark Arts classes, and because of this he became the target of a number of magical pranks by the Slytherins. Like many Muggleborns of that time, Sebastian kept his parentage a secret, at the advice of some older Ravenclaws and Gryffindors. It was only after Voldemort’s downfall during his fifth year that he and his fellow students were able to reveal their blood status without fear of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
Sebastian left Hogwarts in 1984 with ’Outstanding’ grades in his Charms and Divination NEWTs, even topping the year in his Charms exam. On top of this, he gained ‘Exceeds Expectations’ in Muggle Studies, Potions and History of Magic, as well as ‘Acceptable’ grades in Transfiguration.
He spent a number of years working various jobs, unsure what he wanted to do with his life. During this time, he began work on a pair of books, aimed as wizarding families who lived in an area with a high population of Muggles: his experience in trying to disguise his magical talents to his parents (on the rare occasion when he actually saw them during school holidays) being something which inspired him. The works were finally picked up and published in February 1992, and though they did not provide his with great fame, they did lead to him becoming a minor authority on the use of magic around non-magical beings.
Then, in 1997, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named returned. Fearing for his safety, and recalling the events of his first five schools, Sebastian fled to America. There, he took up a job teaching Charms at Salem, where he spent seven years until he was sure it was safe in England. Finally confident enough to return, but still feeling the desire to teach, he moved back to England and took up the position of Professor of Charms at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 2006, but took last year out in carry out field research. He is set to return to Hogwarts for the 2009-2010 school term, eager to empart his knewly-aquired knowledge on the students.
Describe your job duties and how you go about them: Sebastian has been Professor of Charms at Hogwarts for three years now, which involves teaching all seven years at Hogwarts, as well as preparing fifth and seventh year students for their OWLs and NEWTs respectively. He carefully crafts and sticks rigorously to his lessons plans, understanding the importance of both practical magic and theory work in the education process.
He also offers appointments to any students looking to talk with him about work in either his office (for academic help) or the charms classroom (for practising magic), as well as a ‘drop-in’ session in his office every Thursday evening between 18:oo and 2o:oo, though this purely covers help with written homework.
Elaborate on your expertise in your field: Sebastian graduated Hogwarts with the best marks of his year in both his Charms OWLs and NEWTs. He is well-versed in all kinds of charms, and can cast a number of them silently. He also has an eidetic memory, meaning that his ability to memorise spells is excellent. On top of this, he has several years experience teaching at Salem school in America, giving him plenty of practice dealing with students.
His status as a Muggleborn has led Sebastian to write two books aimed at wizarding families living in areas populated almost exclusively by muggles: the first examines how magic is viewed by muggles in their writings and other parts of their culture, while the second looks at how to use magic without drawing suspicion from non-magic users as well as listing a series of low-key but effective household spells.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Sebastian is a man shaped by his past, something which is only enhanced by his eidetic memory. When meeting new people, he is old-fashioned, with habits drilled into him by his parents antediluvian social life. Once past this, people find that he is gentle to his friends, but standoffish to his enemies, and never forgets a grudge. He truly enjoys teaching, keen to share his knowledge of spells with eager minds, but has little time for those who are not keen to learn.
