Full Character Name: Leonard Migiziins "Migs" Nagde
Character Birthday & Age: September 21; 18 years
City & Country of Birth: St. John, North Dakota, USA
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Muggleborn
House & Year: Salem Senior; Cliodne Hall
Wand: 14.5 in, Quaking Aspen with a triad core of mustang tail hair, white buffalo calf wool and thunderbird feather
Physical Description: At 6'1'' and around 175 pounds, Migs is relatively tall for his age and has well defined musculature. He carries himself square and upright, portraying a quiet and unassuming confidence. Most of the time, he can be seen with a subtle and soft smile on his face. Though he will continue to grow and bulk up as he continues to age, Migs has clearly outgrown the awkward gangliness of adolescence and is comfortable in his own body.
His hair is jet black and he leaves it free to grow to whatever length it chooses which, at present time, is about mid-chest length. He will wear his hair pulled back or otherwise contained if his current activity warrants it but he prefers to wear it down and loose during the course of a normal day.
Especially in contrast to many of the East Coasters who attend Salem, Migs has a distinct reputation for dressing in a 'casual country' manner. His outfits of choice usually consist of comfortable button up shirts, heavy work jeans and boots.
Personality Description: At the same time quiet, reserved and confident, to the unfamiliar, Migs can sometimes give the impression of being a little slower. When asked a question or addressed during class, Migs will usually take a moment before answering. But, the assumption that Migs is cognitively slower than his classmates is far from the truth. He is a deliberate, perceptive and observant young man who prefers thinking through a situation rather than talking through it and will offer answers only if and when he's confident in them.
His quiet confidence should also not be confused with shyness or any lack of comfort around others. On the contrary, Migs thrives on social interactions and involvement. He loves to be in the presence of the voices of others and enjoys parties, get togethers and social interactions even if he isn't the most dynamic in the group.
Though, like his great-aunt, his trek to wizarding school had been his first excursion outside North Dakota and the reservation, his inherent sociability helped him considerably with the transition from the quiet, rural life to Massachusetts. But, Migs is still at heart a country boy and proud of his Chippewa heritage. Like his grandparents, parents and siblings, he loves the rodeo and pow wow circuits and much of his athleticism comes from working on his grandfather's ranch. He's participated in and competed in most of the major rodeo events.
History: Unlike his magically-capable sister, Tulojow, Albert Nagde never experienced a lot of desire to travel beyond the boundaries of the Chippewa Reservation at Turtle Mountain in North Dakota. While Tulojow left the reservation as a young girl to attend school in the Pacific Northwest, Richard remained in the care of his grandparents and finished high school in North Dakota. After holding down a variety of odds and ends jobs, Albert married and settled down on his grandparents land and began breeding and raising mustangs and rodeo bulls. His three sons and only daughter followed in his shoes as did their sons and daughters. It wasn't until his oldest son, Richard, and his wife, Anna Cynthia, gave birth to their fifth and youngest child that that mold was, once again, broken.
Leonard Migiziins was born in the early hours on September 21st. He grew up in much the same fashion as most of his family. He started kindergarten at the school on the reservation and much of his magical ability lay dormant through most of his childhood. If he showed any indication of his magical abilities, it was subtle enough to be nearly unrecognizable, even by his great aunt during her brief and sporadic visits home. So, it came as a surprise to everyone when Leonard - or 'Migs' as he was called by his friends - was admitted to the Salem Witches Institute.
Though the thought of leaving the reservation and his family secretly intimidated him, Migs started at Salem Junior for sixth grade and quickly found his place among his classmates. He enjoyed school and the magical education though he always looked forward to holidays and summer and the opportunity to return home. Though he was rarely the first one to learn a new spell or complete assignments, he demonstrated a steady and reliable work ethic. Partly due to his great aunt's influence, Migs developed an interest early on in the historical roots of traditional forms of magic - an interest that led him to explore his own cultural magical heritage more closely.
He was never one who needed to excel in every class he took - he was content to excel in the subjects that grasped his interest and perform passably in those that he found less intriguing. Migs was, therefore, surprised (and once again a little intimidated) when he was invited to join the delegation of students from Salem to travel to England for the Tetra-wizard tournament. Or, Scotland, apparently - a country he probably couldn't have found on a map when he left North Dakota for the first time.
Why Was The Student Allowed/Permitted To Attend The Tournament??: Though some have speculated that having a family member at Hogwarts somehow influenced his inclusion in the delegation, that was not the case. Though not the most talented or brightest student in his class, Mig's performance is often proven to be consistent and reliable. His interest in non-traditional forms of magic could prove useful to the Salem team.
Writing Sample:
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Migs is a confident, friendly and easy-going young man who enjoys the company of friends. He's very proud of his Ojibwe heritage and keeps his home and family close to his heart. Though not exceptional, he is a strong student and has developed a distinct interest in finding and learning about the magical influences and practices of his own personal heritage.
