Wand: Unicorn tail-hair, eleven inches, Poculi. It is unusually thin and decorated with tiny, intricate lace carvings, heavy around the grip, which fade into a smooth surface as they travel up the length of the wand.
Physical Description: Tall, thin, and striking. Orianne has defined cheekbones and a long neck, which she insists makes her look like the famed bust of Nefertiti , though that’s debatable. She’s quite thin, with boney shoulders and scrawny arms. She’s only gotten that way after years of watching her weight and being very strict about what she eats, and if she gains more than a few pounds, she freaks out about it.
She’s clearly of African descent, though her skin tends towards the pale end of that spectrum. Her black hair is naturally curly and coiled, but she goes to a lot of trouble (and through a lot of hair potion) to smooth and straighten it so that it hangs over a foot past her shoulders. Her eyes about the same color as her hair and are usually framed with makeup.
Her preferred style of dress can be described as 'fashionable.' As far as she's concerned, going to school so close to Paris has its advantages. She keeps up with the best of wizard and muggle fashion, and makes an effort to be as well-dressed as she can at any given moment.
Personality Description: First and foremost, Orianne is an artist, and a good one. Having specialized in wizarding in her upper-level schooling, she is already capable of creating portraits whose subjects move and interact with one another, though their movement is limited only to her own work, and they cannot speak. The previous spring, her work was featured in a small but prestigious wizard gallery in Menton, France, and she carries a book of clippings, reviews, and photographs from the event as a badge of honor.
Art is the driving force in Orianne's life. She is never happier than when she is left alone to paint, and her dorm room in Beauxbatons is covered with murals she's created in fits of artistic inspiration. This artistic passion extends to her fashion sense, her choice of company, and even the way that she dances - her second-favorite hobby.
Pride makes up a large chunk of her personality. In addition to self-admiration of her skills, she is extremely proud of her heritage, since her wizarding side of the family is the oldest in Seychelles, and the Muggle side is descended from the original French governor, so she's more than a little spoiled and arrogant and won't let anyone insult her family.
Elegant, artistic, and beautiful, she has a small fan club of younger girls who consider her a mentor. Orianne is delighted by the attention and treats her fanclub very well, being as open and energetic with them as with any of her friends. And she flirts with them. But then again, she flirts with everybody.
Openly gay, Orianne is also a boundless flirt who loves to tease other girls by hitting on them. She greatly prefers the company of women, and only approaches boys if they are a) her equal in skill or social status, or b) the cute little brother type, like her own adorable younger brother Fabian, whom she adores. Unfortunately, almost all of these flirtations are more about having fun with other people than any romance, and she's not very sensitive to any broken hearts she leaves behind - in her opinion, if you're silly enough to think she's being serious in her games, it's your own fault if you get hurt.
History: Orianne would be scandalized if any history of her life did not begin with her pedigree, so here it is: On her Muggle side, she is a descendant of Commandant Queau de Quincy, the most successful French leader of the Seychelles island territory, while the Traverse family first arrived in 1758, shortly after the islands received their name. The two families existed on the islands together and did not intermingle for several generations due to the Traverse’s traditional habit of allowing only pure-blood marriages among their children.
But, that all changed when the second of their three daughters, Odette, fell for the dashing young Muggle man who swept her out of the way of an out-of-control fruit stand during a festival in Victoria’s heart. Both Odette and her new-found beau, Emmanuel, were utter romantics even then and fell passionately in love shortly thereafter. They were allowed to marry primarily because the Traverse are sensible family, when social matters at hand, and knew that there were only so many pureblood families remaining. As their eldest daughter had found a more suitable match that reinforced their status, Odette was allowed to marry her Muggle boy so long as any children produced by said marriage carried the Traverse name. Emmanuel agreed, and the two were wed.
Three Christmases later, Orianne was born, followed by her younger brother Fabien in the spring before she turned five. They grew up on the island with several cousins, both wizard and muggle, and a lot of pressure from both sides to live up to the potential of their bloodlines. Each of their cousins proved talented in their own way, but Orianne was particularly ambitious and determined to outshine them all.
Though most of the Traverse family went to more local wizarding school in Africa, Orianne applied to Beauxbatons shortly after she turned eleven and, to the shock of her cousins, was accepted. It was also around that time that she began to show her true talents in the arts, teaching herself to draw, paint, and dance whenever she could find the time. Shortly after she graduated to lycee, Fabian followed her to Beauxbatons, eager to spend more time with his dear sister.
Now, coming up on her final year at the school, Orianne has chosen to focus on her love of wizarding art and, after years of dedicated instruction and pure talent, she’s achieved great things.
How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Orianne is already a renown wizarding artist, having enjoyed a gallery showing of her art in Menton last spring. Under the care of her teachers, she has begun to bring her paintings to life – literally – and is already garnering a reputation among the wizarding elite in France and Seychelles.
In addition, she has beautiful wand work and is particularly good at Charms. While she as not as magically potent or exact as some of her classmates, she can still be considered above-average on both subjects. She has proven herself devoted to excellence and is determined that, this time, it will be Beauxbatons that wins the Cup.
