Wand: “Mademoiselle Devereux was chosen by a wand as fun-loving and nondeterrable as she is. 8 5/8” for the small girl, and an adventurous combination of dogwood and kelpie mane hair; a very springy wand for a very springy young witch. An entertaining match indeed!” - Mme. Florence Tremblay, Wandmaker (translated from French)

Physical Description: Del is a small girl, standing at about 5'3" and weighing in around 53 kilograms (117 pounds). Her lack of curves is sometimes cause for distress in the teenage girl, as everything about her is almost unnaturally thin- well, almost everything. She has think, dark, wavy hair that falls nearly to the middle of her back. She has fair, almost olive skin with hazel eyes and dark, well-groomed brows. Her smiles are more like grins, and she is rarely seen without one.

Unlike most of her elegant schoolmates, Delphine's sense of style can be described as bold and quirky. She greatly favours bright colours, loud patterns, and cute costume jewellery. Many have quirked eyebrows at her extensive collection of t-shirts featuring muggle rock stars and colourful shoes.

All in all, Delphine looks exactly as she is- a girl who just wants to have fun.

Personality Description: One would think a flamboyant and dramatic girl like the youngest Devereux sister would have her sights set on acting, but she actually aspires to be a journalist. Always curious, Delphine wants to know everything about everyone and everything, and she is nearly impossible to discourage once she gets interested. This can be good, as it can lead to making new friends or learning something new. However, it can also make her a pushy pest. She likes to listen to gossip and can often jump to conclusions, though she really doesn't mean to hurt others. She's got a brave heart, and will always do what's right.

The perpetually bubbly Delphine is a bold, outgoing girl who loves to meet new people. However, she can also be flighty and has a hard time committing to anything other than journalism. Her opinions are out there, loud and proud, as she refuses to keep them to herself. Those who stick around despite her loudness and lack of etiquette make themselves an endlessly loyal, fun-loving friend.

History: Born to the proprietors of an upscale restaurant that makes its fair share from the tourism surrounding Cannes’ famous film festival, Delphine Esmé Devereux literally lives on drama.

Simon Devereux and Juliane Bouchard, two muggles*, met at university where they both studied business and shared a passion for fine food. They were business partners before romantic partners, but after the two realised their feelings after twelve years of knowing each other, they courted briefly and married. They continued to expand Le Pamplemousse Diamant (The Diamond Grapefruit) along with their family, until the restaurant became lauded as one of the best in France and the couple had three daughters: Nicolette, Amélie, and Delphine.

Despite the influx of celebrities every year, life was normal for the Devereuxs and their three daughters. The girls would go to school and sometimes help out at the restaurant (where their parents were very much involved in the day-to-day operations) afterwards. However, strange things started happening with Nicolette when she reached age nine. They were mostly small things: colourful sparks appearing out of nowhere, things flying off shelves when she got upset, etc. Though one day Simon discovered the three-year-old Delphine floating in midair- and it was as if Nicolette was making it happen (all while Amélie was hysterically laughing)! It was after that the family received the letter. The mysterious letter claiming that Nicolette was magical, and that there would be a place for her at the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic.

It took a visit from the Headmistress herself to convince the Devereuxs that magic was indeed real, and that their eldest (and likely their other two daughters) should attend her school to better understand her abilities. Obviously, the bewildered parents relented at the undeniable proof.

To the five-year-old Delphine, this was the most spectacular news ever received. A magic school, right there in Cannes! This whole time, and they had no idea! She simply couldn't wait to know if she was magic as well, the anticipation often causing stress for the young girl. In fact, when she was seven, she tried to stow away in one of her sister's duffle bags.

Sure enough, the letter came, and Delphine has been attending Beauxbatons since she was eleven. The school's stress on elegance and manners that worked so well with her sisters (now both graduated) seem lost on Delphine, who is as untamable today as she was the day she stepped through those castle doors. Schoolwork can be diffcult, and some of her schoolmates find her annoying- but Delphine Devereux has enjoyed every second of her magical life.

* The Devereux matriarch is actually a squib, unbeknownst to her husband, daughters, or even Juliane herself. She was given up as an infant by a militant pureblood family, as she was the product of a shameful affair with a muggleborn. Thankfully, perhaps, Juliane was not magic and thus blended in effortlessly with the muggle society she was adopted into. Her daughters are magical via her genes.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: To be honest, Delphine isn’t the best student that ever lived. However, once she heard about the Tetrawizard Tournament, she instantly stepped up her game and got the grades she needed in order to attend. She’s going for the drama! The action! The excitement! Also, she was a logical choice for the task of keeping those who remain in France up to date with the events to unfold in Britain.

Writing Sample:

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Delphine Devereux is a bit of an oddball at Beauxbatons, with her inelegant style of dress and inability to pick up proper manners. Still, she has a good heart and is always cheerful. She is your quintessential future journalist: curious, outgoing, and not easily deterred. Britain had better watch out, because this girl believes you should go big or go home- and she has no intentions of returning to France a second early.
