Alice rolled out of bed on a rainy Wednesday morning. She had had a terrifying dream that night of Velcro bunnies that ate people. Her teeth ached like crazy, being forced back to the memory of chewing on the Velcro. She put her glasses on, surprised on how dirty they were.

That's what I forgot to do last night. Clean my glasses. she thought. Alice walked over to her dresser and pulled out a pair of jeans that were too long, (odds are that they were Jane's) and an old T-shirt that she had dyed while at camp over the summer.  Just then she heard a scratching at her bedroom door. Alice opened it, only to have a silverish, white, patronus, mouse run in being chased by the family cat, Patricia.

The mouse jumped on to her desk where it stood, looking around nervously. "Alice," Her brother's voice said from the tiny mouse. "I'm in London for the morning, meeting a client that may be purchasing a large amount of my potions. Mom's out shopping with Jane and Colin, and I think Dad went to work. I'll be home around 2. Wish me luck! I've brought my entire set of potions, and if all goes right, I may be able to start making a living on the stuff! Later!" The patronus disappeared and Pat jumped on to Alice's bed.

The orange stripped tabby curled up on a warm spot on the bed.  The bell on her collar tingled as she did so. Alice giggled softly and sat down next to her. She took her finger and went under the cat's collar and itched her.  "You silly kitty. Who's a silly kitty? You are." She giggled once again and caught her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was every which way, and she had a gross stain on her shirt. Whatever. I don't really care how I look. I'm just that whack-a-doodle child of those two weirdos. she thought, quoting what most people said about her and her family behind their backs.

She heard a familiar CRACK! from the back yard. She ran out of her room and slid down the railing of the staircase that lead to the first floor of the small home, a smile on her face the size of Great Britain itself. She loved that sound. The sound of her older brother coming home from work.  Alice ran out of the back door neglecting that she did not have socks nor shoes on, but her smile soon faded away. She slowed down.

Mark hobbled towards her, bleeding from his lip and a black eye forming. He clutched his side. "What- What happened?" Alice said as she went over to him, in order to have him lean on her.

"I got jumped while in London by a few guys. I think that they were looking for money or something. All I had on me were a few Sickles, though." He explained. "Arraugh!" He exclaimed, closing his eyes and turing his head towards the sky. It was clear he was in pain.  They hobbled into the kitchen where he sat down in a dining room chair.

Alice ran over to the refrigerator and grabbed an ice pack in which she wrapped in a towel and put on to his eye. "Why are you clutching your side?" She asked. He pulled up his shirt. He had a deep cut  that was bleeding heavily. "Alrighty- then." she said, her eyes growing. She went over to one of the many drawers and pulled some gauze and medical tape. She made him a patch and stuck it on.

He smiled the warm smile that she loved. "Thanks. You always know just what to do. He kissed her forehead. She chuckled. and hugged him, careful not to touch the side wound.

"So, where are your potions?" She asked. His smile disappeared.

"Gone. I dropped my bag full of them when I was attacked. They must have shattered." The next part was muttered. "All my hard work. Gone." He looked down at his shoes.

"You  can make more though. Right?" Alice asked, concern shining in her eyes.

"No. I had the recipes for each in that bag. I'm going to need to start fresh. At square one."

"I'm sorry," Alice responded, hugging him once more.

The door slammed open, "ALICE!" They heard someone scream. "Alice where are you!" It was Lexi, their cousin.

"Alice, it looks like a crime scene out here. Did you kill something?" The foot steps continued.

"ALICE! If you don't come out I swear I'm gonna, oh!" Lexi had just come around the corner to find Alice and her brother, and alot more blood. "So you're trying to kill something... you know I pegged you for the quiet, church mousy, goody-two shoes type. Geuss I was wrong," Lexi said with a shrug of her shoulders.

Alice quickly turned her head towards the door Lexi had barged through. She was always a bit loud growing up.  "No you idiot. I didn't kill anything. Isn't that YOUR job?" she said with a chuckle. Mark looked up and giggled at her joke.

"Nothing died. I just um. Well. Got um. Jumped while in London. Got beat up pretty bad." He looked again at his feet. " I was being careless."

"No you weren't. Don't be silly. It could have happened to anyone. Now, Lexi, do you have any makeup? Mom will flip if she sees him in this condition." Alice continued. She walked towards Lexi.

Mark's eyes grew wide even if one was swollen. He stood up quickly. "Make-up? No way. Nope. Not going to happen." He shook his head furiously. Alice gave him a sideways look.

"Makeup? Are you serious Alice? You're asking ME for makeup?" Lexi began to laugh.
Responding to the stare Alice gave her, Lexi pointed to her backpack.
"Front pouch, I've got some concealer in there."

"No! No! You step away Alice! I am serious little lady! Step away!" Mark began to yell. He took three steps backward, as Alice reached into Lexi's bag.

"Just a little. Mom will freak out if she knows the truth. You know she will." Alice responded. She started moving a chair close to him and patting it. "Right here. It will be quick. I promise." She said to him. He was slowly backing into a corner he had not noticed. An extra chair was in that corner for those days when the family had extra guests.

"I refuse. Alice- Alice, I am serious right now. Very serious. I'll... I'll... Curse you! Yeah! I'll curse you!" Mark said becoming worried.

"Your wand is still in the backyard silly. It fell out of your hand when you Apperated." She approached him slowly, concealer in hand.

"Lexi? Do your favorite cousin a favor and stand behind him in that chair." Alice asked as soon as Mark stumbled into the chair. She had an evil smile on her face. "It's all with good intentions. Remember that, Mark." He looked like he was going to be sick.

Lexi smiled as she made a quick mock salute, "Ready?" She asked moving to grab Mark's arm. She pinned both of his wrists together and nodded her head to Alice. "Good luck!" Lexi said grinning fiercly at Alice.

Mark's heart beat increased as Alice stepped closer and closer.

Alice first applied some concealer to his black eye, hiding it best she could. "Ow! Gentle, alright?" Mark said, pulling back.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever." Alice said, applying more to his eye. She then directed her attention to his lip. it had a red gash in it which was easily noticeable. "Ah ha! I know just what you need." Alice exclaimed. She put down the concealer, and bolted upstairs to grab something.

"So." Mark started. "If you let me go, I'll go buy you ice cream." He turned his face to Lexi. "What do you say?"

"You fight like a girl," Lexi said crossing her arms. "But if you're buying ice cream, then I geuss I should say sorry." Lexi stuck her toungue out and rushed off to find Alice.

Alice was upstairs looking around for some lipstick. Something that would look natural enough but cover the bloody lip. Hmmmm. Pink? Maybe red. She weighed the two in her hands when Lexi came in. "Hey. Pink or red?" She held them up so Lexi could see.

"Oh my god. Where is he? Why did you let him go? We were going to try eye shadow!" Alice said, sounding disappointed.

"Augh!" Lexi groaned, "he promised me ice cream! That's so unfair." Lexi turned around and asked "Where's the bleach? We need to clean up your house before your mom sees it. She would flip out."

OOC: This is great. These are all things that go through a 10 year old's mind!
IC: "Bleach? YOU expect ME to trust you with bleach? Come on Lexi. I love you, but still don't trust you." Alice smiled and put the lipstick down.

"I think Mark can just clean it up with his wand. Gosh, I can't wait to get my own wand!" Her mind filled with thoughts of Hogwarts and magic. All the knowledge she could obtain. She smiled.

"If we ask him really nicely, maybe he WILL buy us ice cream!" With that, she ran out of the room and into the kitchen, but Mark was gone.  He was looking for his wand in the backyard. She whispered to Lexi, who was behind her, " If we find the wand first we can trade him for ice cream! Then everyone wins!"

"You mean if we find that?" Lexi said, raising her finger to point at the wand lying in the grass about thirty feet away from where Mark was looking.

Alice smiled. "That would be the one!" She ran up to it and plucked it off the ground. Alice admired. Strong Oak. A bit heavy for her, but liked it. "Looking for this?" She yelled to Mark. She waved it in the air.

Mark looked up and smiled. "Yeah! Thanks Alice!" he said walking towards her with his hand outstretched.

No, No. We are going to trade. Take me and Lexi to go get ice cream in Hogsmeed, and we'll give it back." Alice said smiling.

"But how will I get there without my wand? Drive? Can't. Dad's got the car." He said, believing he had the upper hand.

"Alright. You have a good reason, and I'll give you that. But promise us you will take us for ice cream." Alice answered, his wand ready to hand back to him.

"Fair enough. Side by side Apperation, anyone?"

"I'm coming!" Lexi said, slipping her small hand into his larger one.
"Come on Alice, let's go. Places to see, people to meet. C'mon!"
