Personality Description: Dorian is a man with an unquenchable thirst, which drives and controls most of his life. It is a thirst for knowledge. He is an extremely intelligent man, with the mind of a perfectionist, and yet he still has an incredible imagination.
This highly intellectual way of life, while useful in his pursuit, has hindered him in forming emotionally meaningful relationships his entire life. Many have wondered if he even has real emotions: a question not even Dorian is completely sure of...
Dorian does thoroughly enjoy the world and people around him, though most often in the way of a spectator. This fascination with every aspect of the world has taken him to areas of magic considered both good and dark. Many have speculated about his appointment to the Department of Mysteries because of these tendencies, but Dorian has made it clear to anyone who asks that the road of knowledge is long and wide, and knows no boundaries and close-minded definitions as good or evil.
"Such is the aspects of Man, not Magic!"

    History: Childhood

It was the stormiest and most windswept eve of the whole year, that day when Dorian was born. The previous weeks had seen a build-up of bad weather, now apparently reaching a climax. Alexander and Josephine MacCullen, both the heirs of wealthy families, both beautiful people on the outside and the inside, and both Muggles. The pregnancy had come quite a short time after their honeymoon, and joy and expectancy filled the house, battling the moods of the world outside. Dorian's was a swift birth, and his parents initial concern was turned to joy as the nurse declared him a healthy and strong baby boy, and within a few minutes the storm outside had died, and the rest of the night was as still and ghostly as All Hallows Eve should be.

Dorian's defining years were initially spent alone with his loving parents, who both taught him virtues they both held dear: his father trained him daily in sports and gave Dorian a strong physical prowess. His mother on the other hand encouraged his mental faculties, for she said she knew that it was his mind that would be his greatest asset, and he soon felt he agreed more and more with her, feeling more at home with his books and learning than with the few other children his family knew. Even after his twin sisters where born he barely changed his social nature, or the lack thereof. Not many people had much against this, for his appearance grew more and more peculiar, and the random bursts of magic that came with being a child wizard were attributed to weird occurrences that always happened with Dorian around. It was the very night before his letter from Hogwarts arrived that Dorian had become weak and sad from his life, but it would turn out that this was the lowest point he would ever experience; he would soon soar.

    School Years

From the day his letter arrived and told him and his family of his true nature, Dorian set his mind to reach greatness, in the only area he knew he could truly excel: knowledge. His sisters loved having a wizard brother, and his parents arranged almost at once for a vault at Gringotts, and an ample supply of money, to give Dorian all the help and advantages they could seeing as the weren't magical themselves. And his entrance into Hogwarts truly felt as if it was meant to be. The Sorting Hat sensed his yearning at once, and sorted him into Ravenclaw. He set himself apart from day one, showing a great aptitude for all work that was set to him, which gave him respect from teachers and students alike, though friendships never evolved from these relationships...

He soon became a voluntary helper in the Library, and was in his third year allowed access to the Restricted section on a near-permanent basis, giving him indescribable new insights and ideas to magic, which evolved into projects, which again evolved several times into Awards for Advanced Academic Performance.

Everyone considered him a shoe-in for prefect as he went into his fifth year, but an unfortunate accident in the student bedroom involved an extreme spell-related malady, and the repercussion of this incident left a permanent mark on his criminal record, though many of his teachers vouched for him saying there was no doubt it was an accident. Many students weren't so sure....

Though he still managed to become a prefect in his seventh year, his heart wasn't in it, and he soon relinquished the position to get more time to his studies and preparation for NEWT-examinations.
After receiving his excellent results, he bid farewell with the few acquaintances he had at school, and traveled home.

    Post-Hogwarts

Dorian stayed with his family only half a year before finding out that he felt far from finished with learning about magic, and so he began a journey that would take him to the furthest reaches of the world. But before his travels even took him outside of Great Britain, the Second War pulled him first back home, where he set up the strongest protective charms and spells he knew, to keep his family safe. Then he travel onward to Hogwarts, for as he heard that large numbers of The Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters had massed around the old school he wished to fight to protect such a revered institution, caring slightly less about the other aspects of the fight. He managed to get inside the castle, but noticed soon that he was more interested and hungry for all the different kinds of magic that happened all around him. So he cast a Disillusionment Charm on himself and began walking through the masses, devouring and analyzing everything he saw. The moment Lord Voldemort had fallen, Dorian left Hogwarts, and headed out into the world with renewed vigor for his life's task.

It was rare for him to return home during his travels, but each visit home came with reassurances and good luck-wishes from his family, perhaps the only people who cared for him, and most certainly the only ones he cared for. After many years Dorian decided to return home for a slightly more permanent basis, and took up a job at the Ministry of Magic, hoping for a vocation that would utilize the maximum of his abilities and expertise, ending up in the Department of Mysteries.

A very strong mind was born that decade, with the mixing of knowledge both new and forgotten from all over the world, giving Dorian a reason to smile more and more, knowing that one day it will all culminate in something amazing.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them: Dorian is one of the wizards responsible for gathering information and relevant data from all over the world for his sub-department, for him a natural extension of his previous travels, making him an experienced field researcher.
But he is also often enough at his office in the Department of Mysteries, where he is to be found three to six months of the year in deep concentration and productivity.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:Achieved Outstanding in NEWT-level examinations in the areas of Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, and Potions, while achieving Exceeds Expectations in Herbology and Ancient Runes.

In addition, having used over a decade traveling the world in search for diverse ways of practicing and understanding magic, he has achieved a beginning mastery of the details and fundamentals of magic, creating and modifying everything he knows for every new thing he learns.

Writing Sample: Reclining in his chair in front of the large desk, Dorian looked at all the portraits lining the walls, some of whom stared back.

The Headmistress cleared her throat and looked up from the roll of parchment Dorian had given her at the start of the meeting.
"Well, well, well. This is an impressive and certainly interesting resumé, with a lot of relevant experience. But, mr MacCullen, I don't see any clear reason why I should hire you for the position as Professor of Charms? For one thing, you are relatively young."

The headmistress stood up and turned to the drinks-cabinet, and Dorian saw that she was uncomfortable under his gaze. He hadn't stopped smiling since he walked through the door, and wouldn't stop for something he was so used to.
A casual flick of Dorian's wand sent the finished drink from her hands to his, and after taking a sip Dorian answered.
"My dear Headmistress, though I don't possess as many years as other candidates, I dare say that the ones I do have have been filled with more experiences than some will have in a lifetime! And Hogwarts, as the place that started my journey, should benefit from all I've learned. It's by far the least I could do."

Dorian raised his glass to the portrait of Albus Dumbledore, who smiled slightly and looked from him to the Headmistress and back.

The Headmistress narrowed her eyes in what looked like the beginnings of suspicion.
"That is all quite admirable, Mr MacCullen, but it is the nature of some of your 'experiences' that have caused some stir in both the school board, and, I admit, in my own mind."

Dorian looked away again from the portrait, and though his smile still didn't vanish, it did become tight, and the pale blue of his right eye became even more icy as he replied.
"Well now, what are you implying, my dear Headmistress?"

"There have been reports of suspicious use of magical creatures, violent clashes between several foreign witches and wizards, and highly volatile experimental magic, Dorian. Do you deny this?"

Dorian put down his drink, sighed, and sat up more straight.
"What I deny, Madam, is your implying that what I have done in my travels is in some way evil, but I can show clear positive knowledge gained from it all. And while we're on the subject, I noticed you didn't mention the reports I have myself heard of the positive outcomes of my travels. For instance the curse I removed from the daughter of a south American shaman."

"Mr MacCullen, that is indeed impressive, but the rest, combined with you're already mentioned age has many parents and teachers concerned..."

"I am tired of people being concerned! I never am! Good and evil are aspects of Man, not of Magic!" Dorian noticed he was on his feet, with a firm grip on his wand. He reined himself in, and sighed.
"Madam Headmistress, I think we can both see where this is going, and I'll save you the trouble of dismissing me. I'll thank you for listening to me and take my leave."

The Headmistress stood up behind the desk, still slightly shaken from Dorian's reaction, but inwardly glad he was leaving, so she followed him towards the door, but was slightly nonplussed when Dorian stopped by one of the windows, and opened it after pulling on his traveling cloak.

"Headmistress, know this: one day we will both look back on this, and it will be a day when all will see the fullness of my fate in this world and it will be glorious. Don't think it far-fetched that I will have held both this job and perhaps even yours!"

The Headmistress simply stared at Dorian as he turned back to the window, put a foot on the windowsill, and jumped through. She rushed to the edge to see him dive faster and faster until he halfway down gave a small flourish of his wand and came in to a gliding landing almost all the way down the grounds towards the gates. After touching down he was joined by a raven on one shoulder and an eagle n the other.
Walking the rest of the way to the gates, he took a quick look behind him as he reached them, then turned back and into the crushing void as he Apparated away, thinking of another possible job...

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Considering the whole world a great challenge and always hungry for more, Dorian sees more often than not a world and people to be conquered, instead of mutual understanding. Considering the world in his own terms, he is never much concerned with what others call good and evil, everything must be explored.
