    Mungo's Hospital Changes

    on October 07, 2011, 08:32:13 PM

So I've been talking with all the players with healers to start a plot for St. Mungo's due to all the werewolf happenings and runespoor poisonings and stuff. There really isn't a system in place to deal with Runespoor venom and we figured they'd have a new system in place to deal with werewolves. So these are ideas discussed through PM that I've compiled, let me know if I missed anything!

We were first thinking that Mungo's may make some changes to level fours securities, procedures, tools, enchantments, and etc. in order to deal with the sudden new arrival of creature injury/diseases. With Hannah Bombay getting bitten by a werewolf on duty, and the recent cases of Runespoor stuff, we discussed that St. Mungo's Board of Warlocks would hold someone accountable for one of the staff being bitten and may overstaff the first floor because of all the recent happenings. Delilah would find that a poor solution, but we were going with the idea that it was a majority decision and that some of the Board did not agree with the final outcome. As a result, we thought of a few plot stuff to happen.

    Werewolves

    • For Healears:
      • Natasha has offered up Jason to being held accountable for Hannah being bitten, and so that maybe he instigates some new procedures, or some of the Healers-in-Charge get together and sort things out.

I also suggested that maybe the Board wanted staff from the fourth floor to go to the first floor and that that could get Simon involved.

It was also suggested that maybe the staff on the first floor wear padding of some sort, or just have extra gear to wear when dealing with the full moon--I offered up Torquil to develop some gloves, boots, and stuff to try out and maybe they can have a fun thread about this with Kale and a few other healers.

      Currently:
      • For now, there is a thread going on between Nuri and Delilah about developing a sedative for the werewolves and I think that Mel and Natasha are going to start one between Hannah and Jason for brewing wolfsbane for Frank, since he's allergic to the normal brew.

      Other Characters:
      • Mai has said that every person reacts to the Direwolf strain differently so I figured that on June 7 (full moon) or plus or minus a few days around that time that a few people would start transforming or having issues coping with the strain and may check into Mungo's, or be dragged into the hospital and start transforming/causing some havoc. After that, the hospital may take more formal and official steps to make more drastic changes to St. Mungo's for the next full moon (around July 7) and that there could be some public reaction/outrage/praise of some sort for the hospital. =The current ideas we have planned are that Mungo's may turn towards much more violent and forceful precautionary methods, and that it could cause some controversy/action. Mel has also said that the staff should start making sure the patients are and feel safe during and around the full moon and that even Hannah's being bitten may eventually reach the press.

    Runespoor Venom
    • So there's a lot going on with the Runespoor stuff, and there's a ton of different methods for dealing with the venom and we haven't really discussed what much to do with this plot right now. I figured getting some more feedback with people who are more involved with the plot would be really helpful for figuring out how Mungo's deals with the venom and stirring up some plots (: .

Melissa may have more helpful ideas to add, since her character is the one who's most recently been through Runespoor venom poisoning.

Everything that has been established on Runespoor venom burns is already in the Compendium.  I think what's been said in the past is that you can't treat Runespoor poisoning or Runespoor venom burns with magic because the venom reacts badly and makes the damage worse.  Potions are the only safe way to treat the victim until the venom works its way out of his/her system.

If you want to have the Healers come up with a better (non-actively magical) way to treat Runespoor poisoning, you are more than welcome to.  :)  I just don't think there are plans for any of the Aurors involved to get poisoned again in the near future, hahaha.  So you might have to come up with your test cases somewhere else.

Oooh! Cool plot idea! I love hearing about stuff going on at St. Mungo's.  It's like magical Grey's Anatomy.  (*ducks and covers*)  I would be happy to help write (or just write) an article about Bombay's bite.  I can leave her name out of it, but just as a sort of plot-supporter.  Talk about changes that could be happening at Mungo's.  Very newsworthy, mmhmm.

And yea, that wiki article is pretty well established on the burns from the cured Runespoor venom.  Maybe raw bites are not as volitile since the venom has not been cured?  Just as deadly, perhaps, but not so concentrated?  I dunno.  There's a window there for a little more development.

So first of there's a thread between Delilah and Vivienne about making a sedative and then another where Torquil is testing some gear for healers on level 1, that's open to other healers.

Runespoors: Yes, right now there's just a lot of non-magical treatments going around the hospital for bites or poisonings, but no actual procedural treatment. I think everyone's been treating the recent cases as a relatively new thing without a routine treatment, but with how repetitive it's become, (and I assume with the Runespoor trading going on it will be a little more common,)  I thought it would be fun if the people at Mungo's came up with a more routine way of dealing with the venom. I'm sure burns can be added into the mix as well though, and would become a repeat-problem as well (:

Newstory: Yeah that sounds good to me! Mel said she talked to you about it too, so I think it would be cool to include in a story after the June 7 full moon has run its course and the full moon has gotten over with? Giving reporters reasons to go snooping and eventually find out about a staff member getting bit? We could probably make up some NPC's to give quotes for the story too.

RCMC Involvement: I had talked to Thea a little about getting Griffon involved as well, and I'm thinking maybe Mungo's would want to share records on registered werewolves, bitten patients, yadda yadda, so they could pull a file on anyone just in case they came in? Unless they already do that? I think it would be a fun little nugget to work with, and that maybe they end up sharing records on werewolves?

I'm also thinking the WCU would be asked to be there after a werewolf/direwolf problem is identified, although doesn't necessarily need to be roleplayed, but could provide some footing for another plot idea? Or just some character interactions?
