[May 26]Absentminded Musings [open]

There was something about the quickly approaching end of the school year that had Anna feeling a bit melancholy.  There was more coming to an end then just the school year.  Isaac Fraiser, the school's Muggle Studies Professor had turned in his resignation.  That meant if she chose to return herself the following year it would be without one of her dearest and oldest friends roaming the halls.

There was part of her that was extremely happy for him.  After all, he would be in a supervisor position at the Ministry.  He would be working to assist with Muggle relations.  It really was quite the opportunity for him.  Yet, when she had needed a fresh start, knowing there would be a familiar face waiting for had been one of the most compelling reasons to say yes.  She felt a bit like she was back in her seventh year again, waiting for the day to come that they all had to say goodbye as careers and adult lives were about to begin.

With a slight sigh she rose from the table she had been working at, getting up to return a book to its place on the shelf.  After it was safely away, she plucked another one from it's place, absentmindedly flipping through the pages as she wandered back to her table, not really paying the slightest bit of attention.  It was only when she collided with something and dropped the book that she looked up.

He hadn't exactly expected to be in here this morning; he'd just been on his way to the Staff room, winding his way down the long hallways and stairs, when Morgan had swooped out of a side passage and told him to mind the Library while he dealt with an issue. Tapendra had agreed..in the form of a surprised nod. That had been good enough for Landis, apparently.

It wasn't like he minded, really, though he seemed to find himself in here often. Maybe being one of the only teachers who had a basically free schedule during the days wasn't such a good thing. It certainly made him the more likely candidate to fill in when Landis had a family emergency.

He'd given himself a job, though - putting books away. There was a rather large pile of them as the students hurried to revise for the upcoming exams.

So when he was trying to remember if a Potioneering Guide to Herbology went under Herbology or Potions, he also wasn't paying attention. The large stack of books in his hands didn't help the situation, as when Arianna collided with him he promptly dropped them. Many of them landed on his bare feet.

"F-" He made a sound that, thank Merlin, didn't turn into a word. "Argghh," he said instead, mouth open in an attempt to just let the urge to cuss dissipate. "Ouch," he said, finally, before he looked down at who'd run into him.

Anna glanced up sheepishly, her cheeks burning with what she was sure was a bright red blush.  In fact, her cheeks probably now matched the color of her blouse, which just made her all the more embarrassed.  Her ability to get lost in her own thoughts really did have a way of causing trouble…usually though she found herself having solo klutzy moments.  She had seen Tapendra working on putting away the book and minding the libaray...she should have been more aware.

“I am so sorry,” she said in a whisper loud enough for the professor to hear, stooping down to start gathering the books.  “My mind drifted and I wasn’t paying the slightest bit of attention…Are you alright?”

Flustered, she stooped down to start gathering books.  At least if she was looking down at the book she was plucking off the ground she could hide the blush until she had recovered her wits a bit.  She needed to get a grip and focus on the here and now.  What would happen when the next school year rolled around was months away, and she was being silly fretting about it now.

“Perhaps I could help you put these away?” she offered.  “Make up a bit for the extra trouble I’ve caused…”
