Physical Description: Luthas is tall and well built with broad shoulders and a slightly tanned skin tone. He's often teased for looking a bit older than others his age, which he often counters makes him look more mature. His hair is dark brown and curly, usually cut close to his head. His beard varies in style often but usually stays as an anchor. His eyes are dull blue.

Luthas dresses well and his body is muscular due to his usual routine of martial arts and working out. He enjoys the outdoors when on vacation and his general appearance definitely hints at this. He has a large tribal tattoo on his back and left arm, not usually visible under his robes and clothing, that he keeps slowly adding to as he gets older.

He usually wears nice button up shirts and expensive jeans, though he doesn't hesitate to lounge around in ratty pajama pants and a matching T-shirt.


Personality Description: Luthas is overall calm and even minded. He's not prone to extremes of emotion unless really pushed to them, and even then it takes great emotional strain to get him extremely angry. He's more prone to bursts of annoyance than anger, and his annoyance usually comes in the form of snark or sarcastic remarks. He's the sort of man to start something and not want to quit until he's satisfied it's done.

Luthas is stubborn, unfortunately and usually gets his way, his mix of not backing down and remaining aggressively reasonable being enough to defeat most people, since it's hard to fight with someone who is refusing to fight with you. He's scholarly and logical and has a very good memory especially for history or where he put things.

When he was younger he was prone to 'power tripping', using his quick mind to keep people off their feet and willing to listen to his demands. He was much more manipulative in school and could usually convince people he was in the right even on meager evidence. He's mostly grown out of this but can still sometimes slip into doing this to people who succumb easily.

He likes when people respect and acknowledge his abilities and work and will return the favor gladly, but being marginalized causes him considerable difficulty. His once massive ego has dimmed down to merely 'healthy', and he can stand chips at it much better than he could in school, but still can get offended when people snipe at him.


History: Luthas was the second and last child born to Alistair and Moria Blair and the only son which meant that he was the heir. His older sibling, Catrina, was born a full ten years before he was, and because of this Luthas basically spent his childhood as an only child. He was not spoiled however, because being  heir to the Blair estates meant that he was tasked with the guardianship of a grove of rare magical trees that his family has been guarding for over twenty generations. Alistair took Luthas' training in the care and maintenance of the estate seriously, and would not allow the boy to slack.

Luthas started at Hogwarts in 1987 and was sorted into Ravenclaw, along with his future best friends Tapendra Trishna and Ryan White. He later became friends with Judy Greenberg, Sonya Shokavic and his future wife, Ishane Valencia. Luthas and Ryan could be terrors together and was only tempered by Tapendra's  hesitant 'Guys I don't think we should..."

While they had never been extremely close, around his fourth year, Luthas' relationship with Ishane would take a turn for the worse. Both of them found themselves increasingly attracted to each other, but argued and antagonized each other all the time - her fiery temper and his arrogance not being a good match. It wasn't until the middle of their sixth year that their relationship would change. Their fighting became more of a affectionate bickering and soon the two officially began dating.

Right out of Hogwarts Luthas joined the Auror forces as a trainee along with Judy. At first Luthas lived with Tapendra and Tapendra’s baby sister, Georgiana, for about a year until Judy learned she was pregnant with Tapendra’s child. In the ensuing aftermath Luthas moved out of the their tiny flat to crash at Ishane’s for what was originally only going to be for a few weeks but ended up turning into a much more permanent one.

Luthas and Ishane’s relationship had become much more serious since graduation, and eventually in early 1996 the two of them were married. The two continued to live in their small flat in Cambridge, while Luthas visited his parents frequently as he trained under his father and grandfather to take over the family estate. After the fall of the ministry in 1997, Luthas and Ishane decided to move into Luthas' boyhood home to assist Luthas' father and grandfather run the estate after his father had been injured in the attack.

Five months later, on January 18th, Luthas and Ishane welcomed their first child into the world, a baby girl named Tessilah. In May, Luthas was involved in the Battle of Hogwarts, nearly losing his life after being disarmed by a death eater.

 After his close call Luthas began to investigate other methods of protecting himself wandlessly. Eager to encourage this line of thinking, Ishane directed him towards muggle martial arts and self defense training. After trying out several different styles Luthas found Muay Thai to be the best fit for him in both its combat style and focus on conditioning.

While Ishane had lucked out with a relatively easy pregnancy with Tessilah, her labor had been horrific, though thankfully not the deadly kind. While Ish adored her daughter and did want another child eventually, she had no desire to deal with another labor anytime soon. Luthas, feeling that no need to rush anyway, left the matter of when up to Ish. In early 2000, they welcomed the birth of a son, Keiran. With both a heir and spare , Luthas and Ishane mutually decided that two children was enough

During the aftermath of the Second Wizarding War Luthas was promoted to fully fledged auror. He found his niche in the investigation and protection aspects of the aurors, and, like everyone else, was heavily involved in the clean up of Voldemort’s forces. The next few years were fairly calm, and dealing with break ins, fights and illegal merchandise seemed almost petty in comparison.

In 2002, Luthas’ friend and coworker Judy passed away. Her death was one of those fluke accidents, a broken neck resulting from a fall down the stairs in her own home. Tapendra was devastated and the Blair family rallied around him and the children along with their other friends. Leaving the remaining Trishna’s in the care of the Whites, Luthas, Ishane and their children returned home a little emptier than before.

Inspired by Ryan and Tapendra becoming published authors, Luthas decided to dip his own quill into the inkwell. He had always enjoyed history, to the point of being the only one of his year to receive an O for his History of Magic NEWT, and over the years had found the interactions between the muggle and wizarding world fascinating. His first book was published in 2004, and was for the most part a straightforward history of muggle and wizarding interactions in history (though the pro muggle science view that he shared with his friends did bleed through occasionally). A second book followed a couple of years later.

A few years later both Luthas and Ishane felt the need to move out of the Blair estate and move into a new house, a muggle house.With the advent of the age of the internet upon them and their best friends living a much more technically oriented life both were feeling left out and isolated. Not too much later, one of the small farms that shared a border with the Blair estate went up for sale. Taking this as a sign, Luthas and Ishane purchased the two bed two bath farm and moved in. Their new home took a great deal of work at first, the house was well cared for but out dated. Among other things new wiring needed to be installed so they could have internet in the house and the attic needed to be converted into a bedroom so their children would have their own rooms.

In the aftermath of the Remembering Day murders, the wizarding world seemed to experience a surge of criminal activity that has yet to let up, keeping Luthas busy at work. Home was not much calmer with the threat of Prideaux’s minions attacking his family due to Tapendra’s decision to finally disclose what he knew on Prideaux involvement with Runespore smuggling in early 2009. The added stress of Ishane deciding to take a position as Hogwart’s herbology professor and then leaving only a few months into the new year and his daughter starting her first year hasn't helped.


Describe your job duties and how you go about them: Depending on the caseload, Luthas is usually found at a crime scene, going over it with a fine tooth comb, looking for clues and writing copious amounts of notes. With the recent flood of trainees, Luthas has often found himself volunteered to help with their training.

If one of those unfortunate souls gets assigned to him he usually makes them find the clues and take the notes while he stands back and watches, offering help or correction when necessary. Luthas isn’t really a huge stickler for a specific type of technique or process, though he does push for a consistency and thoroughness.

At least once a week, though usually more, Luthas makes sure to check in on the current states of the other aurors’ present cases so he’s up to date with the goings on, and he regularly goes through the archives to review past cases.

If it comes up, Luthas is usually assigned to setup the security for a home in need of protection.
 

Elaborate on your expertise in your field: Luthas has spent 15 years working as an auror, over 10 of those as a fully ranked auror. His focus is on investigation and he primarily works at crime scenes. He always keeps a detailed and meticulous record of the cases he works on, to the point that some of his coworkers would consider obsessive. As required by his job, he’s well versed with magical law and has also made a special effort to keep up with the status of muggle law.

Unlike some of his fellow aurors, Luthas is well known to keep a cool head in combat, a talent that is part natural and part effort. Luthas earned O’s in his DADA, Transfiguration, and Charms NEWTS and considers himself a skilled duelist with both wands and swords (though the only use he’s found for the latter is beating someone up with their own cane). While it isn’t his preferred aspect of auror work, Luthas can and will track down and take out criminals if need be.

After nearly being killed early on in his career after being disarmed of his wand, Luthas took it upon himself to learn other forms of combat, mostly the muggle martial art Muay Thai. A combat pragmatist, Luthas aims to take out his opponents quickly and efficiently, and won’t hesitate to use underhanded tactics if needed to save himself or others.

As part of his training to take care of the Blair estate, Luthas has a great deal of experience in physical type security; specifically focused on setting up perimeter defenses of both magical and non-magical nature. Luthas, along with his father and grandfather, breeds, raises and trains the family’s own pack of magically enhanced guard dogs.
