    Welcome to Egypt!

    EGYPT 2009

The 2009 Egypt trip is a Hogwarts-sponsored school trip planned by Myrni Levartian. All students are welcome - even graduates - and relatives may attend as well.

    To put it nicely:

Need something to do this summer? Looking to travel and see the world? Want to spend time with teachers outside of school (because who wouldn't!?) without having to get graded on it? Need to unwind after OWLs or NEWTs?

Look no further! Summer 2009, Myrni Levartian is hosting a paid tour for students to see the ancient ruins and modern landmarks of Egypt. With plenty of fun planned, students can travel far from the British Isles and unwind in the heat and beauty of one of the birthplaces of magic!

    WHO Gets to Go?
Any students who can attain their parent or legal guardian's permission! First through just graduated students - all are welcome.

Adults are also welcome, as the children need to be chaperoned and parents are free to tag along. However, all parents need to listen to the teachers running the tour.

    WHEN Is It?
The tour departs on June 20th and will return on the 20th of July. The students and teachers will be gathering in London, inside Platform 9 3/4, at 8am, and departing for the beaches of Alexandria via portkeys. After the 20th, 7th years can continue on overseas or touring Egypt - that's totally up to them!

    WHAT Are We Doing?
Planned events include tours of the Pyramids, boat rides on the Nile, Camel rides to desert sites, shopping, a beach trip, mummies, and plenty of other events. Depending on how many people want to go we'll see what they want to do! Students will have some level of freedom.

Note: The guidelines, locations and everything is subject to change! If you have any questions or ideas they can certainly be added.

    OOC Guidelines

    • Keep in mind the IC Guidelines when posting your student. A student breaking the rules of the trip - especially repeatedly - may be asked to return home.
    • Advance your plots! But try to keep the trip in mind - if you think an event would impact the trip as a whole, PM Fauna Blake or Tapendra Trishna and we'll talk it over. A massive security breach such as kidnapping or assault could potentially ruin the trip, so in general we're going to discourage that. However, stuff like students getting lost and having to be tracked down by staff, getting their stuff stolen, students fighting - all that is fine.
    • Have fun! If you have any ideas, requests or just questions, PM a Curator!
    • If you'd like to get added to the Rosater of attendees but didn't sign up in the plotting thread, you can just reply to this.
    Posting in the Trip

In general, stay with the trip. The first place they'll stop in is Alexandria - and you can look at the itinerary for each location. Try to keep your posts in the area they're in. Don't worry - you don't have to end your threads when we move, and you can post back to the beginning of the trip the entire time! We'll also have regular open threads in the hotels and small events as well as the location events. You're free to start open threads on your own, too.

The first event will be the arrival in Alexandria and the picking of rooms and roommates (which kids can have figured out before). They'll have freetime in the hotel on the first night, so you can jump in the pool right away, haha.

    In-Character Guidelines

In general, your student must do/ keep in mind the following:

Obey the rules and orders of their chaperones and the teachers. Wandering away from the group, striking out on their own or otherwise putting themselves in harm's way can lead to in character repercussions and repeated issues may get the student sent home.

Many - if not most - of the sites they will be visiting are going to be muggle and wizarding - there are few few purely wizard sites. This means there will be a lot of muggle tourists around. Visible magic is absolutely forbidden. Students will be briefed on how to behave and are expected to wear clothing that will help them blend in. Teachers will assist students in this if need be.

Students must travel in pairs or groups. Students are NOT to leave to explore or shop on their own.

Students may keep their wands for emergencies, but any use of underage magic that is not in self-defense will be punished.

Pet are allowed ONLY if the student can keep them completely hidden from muggles. Owls and other mail-carriers need to be kept in enchanted cages or let out during the day so that muggles cannot see them. Cats, rats and toads are generally not allowed and are under the same rules - they must be thoroughly hidden and leave no messes. Students who let their pets get out of control may have the pet sent home.

    Item List
    What You Need to Bring!

    • Several changes of muggle-styled clothes. Clothes should be long sleeved and light in color and weight, ideally, and shoes should be close toed. Some variation from this is fine, but in general one should keep that style in mind. Desert locations are not a good place to wear heavy weave clothing or short shorts!
    • At least one formal set of robes or gowns, preferably in muggle style.
    • Hats with brims, sunglasses, and plenty of sunblocking potions. (Sunblock potions will be provided but students should still bring their own).
    • Toiletries - Towels, razors, toilet paper, deodorants, etc.
    • For those bringing electronic accessories, keep in mind converters and batteries, as not all places will have compatible power outlets. (Or outlets at all)
    • Spending money! There will be lots of options to shop - be prepared to exchange your money fr muggle currency!

    Roommates

    • Roommates MUST be of the same sex. The only exception are parents and children. Students caught trying to circumvent this will face disciplinary issues.
    • If roommates cannot be chosen they will be assigned. They will be assigned by house and age.
    • Children are allowed to visit and spent time in each other's rooms, but must return to their own rooms by 10pm (lights out)
    • If student numbers do not add up, they may wind up 3 to a room or bunking with a teacher or chaperone.

I just wanted to let everyone know, feel free to use the Trip Itinerary as a guide and start your own open threads! Don't feel like you have to wait for a professor character to do it if there's an event you'd love to RP. I'll continue making a few event threads, but everyone is certainly welcome to start their own! All the days, from June 20th to July 20th, are open to role-play :).
