Personality Description: Ever the bright and outgoing child, Kale is one of those guys that seem to always be optimistic and carefree, at least when in the public eye. He enjoys a good joke and is always ready with a quick quip or smile. Adventurous to a fault, he enjoys being outdoors and traveling, to the point that he is rarely at home. He is quite intelligent and enjoys his job as a healer because the patient-doctor relationship is one of the few he can have (IE, close during the healing process, but go their separate ways once the patient is better).

But Kale isn't without his dark side. His adventurousness is not just because of his love for traveling but because he has an extremely addictive personality and after his stint with narcotic potions, he tries to refrain from anything that would tie him down. This includes long term relationships. It isn't that he can't love or care for someone, just that he doesn't like the idea of being dependent on anything but himself and his closest family. He can also be quite sarcastic and short tempered with those slower than him, which can make him come across as condescending or impatient.

History: Kale is the second child of Sean Ferris and Celestine St. Murfordt, following close behind his sister Kiana by a couple of years. Born on a beautiful summer day, life started out great for the smiling baby boy. He was loved dearly by his family and returned the favor, especially in regards to his sister Kia. The two were partners in crime, exploring the countryside as soon as both of them could walk. They played with dragons, learned about nature and practiced quidditch with their parents pilfered brooms (much to their chagrin). Unlike Kia, who enjoyed staying near home, Kale was always begging to go on business trips with Sean, who was a dragon tamer for the ministry at the time. His father often obliged and Kale had traveled more then most adults before he was even a preteen. These joyful and exciting times he lived in lasted for nearly a decade before they started to unravel around his 9th birthday.

Unlike Kia, who dreaded the idea of moving away from their little home, Kale embraced the move to America with high hopes. He wasn't like his sister and made friends with the muggle neighbor kids when his own extended family ostracized them. They thought he was inferior because he was not pureblooded, but that didn't bother Kale. He simply didn't care what people thought. It kept him going during the hard times, which proved to be useful barely a year after their move when tragedy struck a harsh blow.

In 1998, his mother was killed. He was told she died a hero, but he was not allowed to see her body. The devastation of her death had a huge impact on the Ferris children. While Kia became closed off and anti-social, Kale became even more outgoing. So outgoing that he begin to cause trouble, starting with pranks in school. Luckily for him, his father decided to move them back to England before he could get himself expelled.

The family settled down in a small house on a Magizoology ranch, where his father took a job. Kia and Kale would start anew at Hogwarts, Kia being sorted (to her horror) into Slytherin and Kale into Hufflepuff. Though he missed his sister greatly, Kale threw himself into the social ocean of the school. At first things were great, but Kales love of pranking and trouble making begin to take a turn for the worst as he got older. By the time his sister graduated, Kale had fallen in with a bad crowd and his grades, which had been superb before then, begin to fail. He managed to pass his NEWTS with decent enough scores, to please his father, but he did little with it once he left school.

Throwing himself into a hard partying lifestyle, Kale begin to drink and take narcotic potions, trying to drown the built up remorse he had repressed. It was likely he would have partied himself to death if not for one fateful night in 2006. He and his best mate at the time were stumbling home, completely trashed, during a full moon. It wasn't until the attack that either of them realized that something wasn't right. Unknown to them at the time, there was a wanted werewolf in the area. He cornered the two in an alleyway and attacked, killing Kales best mate in front of him. Kale managed to pull him off and hold back the werewolves attack long enough for help to come. The werewolf, seconds from killing him, heard them coming and escaped, leaving Kale for dead.

For several months, Kale's life teetered on the edge. He was entrusted to the Werewolf Ward at St. Mungos and as he slowly recuperated, he formed a close bond with the healers that cared for him. It was their care and concern that allowed him to leave his old life behind and get clean. By 2008 he was completely addiction free and a new man. Forever grateful for those that helped save him, he decided to become a healer himself so he may someday be the one to save another's life in the same way.


Describe your job duties and how you go about them: Kale is a Healer-in-Training for the first floor (Creature Injuries). He handles any wounds or diseases that are a direct cause of both magical and mundane creatures. His specialty, thanks to his past, is with Werewolf injuries.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field: Thanks to his upbringing, Kale is exceptional with creature lore, potions and herbology, as well as above average with his wandwork. He also has a strong urge to help those who were in the same situation as himself (Nearly killed/turned by a werewolf).

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Kale is a guy you can always count on for a good laugh and a ready smile, even when healing those who are going to become the thing he fears most. Even though he hates the werewolf that nearly killed him, he works as a healer for those attacked and inflicted by the same curse.
